Harvey Oaks Homeowners Association (HOHA) General Membership Meeting

Thursday, March 14, 2024-7:30 p.m.

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Luke Hawkins, President.

Officers, Committee members, and Area Representatives present at the meeting were: Trent Bradshaw-Treasurer/Golf Classic, Carol Feelhaver-Secretary/Social/Nominating/Welcome, Tom Helm-Parks, Kevin Hughes-Ball Fields/Advertising/Neighborhood Clean-Up, Kelly Jefferson-Minty-Social Media, Corey Podwinski-Fireworks, Lacey Ruffino-Garage Sale/Family Holiday Party, and Traci Selby-Membership/Social/Area 24.

Special guests include: Nicole Hebert-Area 7, Chris Nellis White-Area 19, Dave and Kristi Price-Area 20, and Terri & Jim Small-Area 26.

Committee Reports:

Nominating-the following report was given.

  • HOHA has opening in the following areas:
  • Vice President,
  • Treasurer, 
  • Citizens Patrol.
  • There are openings for volunteers on the Parks, End of Summer Bash/Picnic (EOSB/Picnic), and Nominating  committees.

Membership ReportTraci Selby gave the following report.

  • There are 297 households that are members of HOHA for 2024.  This is 37% of the homes in Harvey Oaks.  There were 274 members in March of 2023.

Parks ReportTom Helm gave the following report.

  • The renovations to the entrance island at 144 and Harvey Oaks Avenue will begin shortly.  Bob Scott’s landscaping company will be doing the renovations.  
  • Holiday lights are in the process of being taken down.

Newsletter Report-There was no one present to give a report.

  • The deadline for the April/May newsletter is March 15.  
  • The deadline for the June/July newsletter is May 15.

Webpage/Social Media Report-There was no report given.  

  • Kelly Jefferson Minty is the new Social Media chairperson.  

Advertising Report-Kevin Hughes gave the following report.

  • Jim Small will be taking over the advertising for the newsletter as of April 1.
  • There has been one new ad sold, and one renewal.

Guidelines Issues-John Brehmer wasn’t present to give a report.

Citizens Patrol Reportthe following report was given.

  • A chairperson for the Citizens Patrol is needed.  Anyone interested can contact Luke Hawkins at lucasmhawkins@gmail.com.  

Social Committee Report-The following reports were given.

  • The HOHA Spring Candy Hunt will be Saturday, April 20, 1:00 p.m. in the South and Middle parks at 151 and Arbor Street.
  • New this year, Arbor Street will be closed from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. for the safety of the children.
  • The Annual Neighborhood Garage Sale is April 25, 26, & 27.  To register for this event, contact Lacey Ruffino,

 by April 8.  (Laceya1016@gmail.com)  Mike Tesner has agreed to print the master list of sales for the event. 

  • The 2024 Harvey Oaks Golf Classic will be Sunday, May 19, with an 8:00 a.m. shot gun start. 
  • The Children’s Patriotic Parade will be Saturday, June 22, 11:00 a.m. in the middle park.
  • The 2024 Fireworks Display will be Saturday, June 22, at dusk in the North park.  
  • The 2024 EOSB/picnic will be Saturday, August 10, 5:00-8:00 p.m. in the North park.  

Neighborhood Clean-Upthe following report was given.  

  • Crescent Oaks will be sponsoring a Spring Clean-Up Day.  Anyone interested in helping with the event can contact Becky Kane, 402-333-9533, becky@scarlet-thread.com for more information.   
  • There will be a Fall 2024, Clean Up Day in Harvey Oaks.  More information will be coming.

Ball field CommitteeKevin Hughes gave the following report

  • The practice field is in great shape and ready for the season to start.
  • Most of the practice times have been reserved for the spring season.
  • Everyone has been notified how to park around the park.

Fireworks Display Committee-Corey Podwinski gave the following report.

  • Corey reported an additional $5,000.00 is needed to fund the 2024 Fireworks Display.
  • Several fundraising ideas were suggested to raise the additional funds.  Without the additional funds, the display might have to be cancelled.  
  • HOHA is an active organization, and a public awareness campaign/fundraiser of what HOHA does for the neighborhood will start.
  • If every home in Harvey Oaks would donate $65.00 the event would be funded.
  • Food Vendors have been set up for the event.
  • Burning Bridges-6:00-8:00 p.m.
  • Carousels Desserts (frozen desserts)-gluten and dairy free-7:30-9:00 p.m.
  • Gyro-6:00-8:00 p.m.
  • Jason’s Donuts-7:30-9:00 p.m.
  • Kona Ice-6:00-9:30 p.m.
  • LaGaviota Mexican Food-6:00-8:00 p.m.

Treasurer’s Report-Trent Bradshaw gave a report.  

  • Anyone interested in a copy of this financial report through February 29, 2024 should contact Trent at trent_m_bradshaw@yahoo.com.

Old Business:

  • There were no homes that changed hands in Harvey Oaks in February, 2024.  So far in March, there have been two homes that have changed hands.
  • The major sponsors for the Harvey Oaks Golf Classic have been found.  Golf Hole Sponsors are needed for the event.  The cost to sponsor a golf hole is $200.00.  Individuals/companies willing to donate raffle prizes can contact Denny Schaeppi-dschaeppi3@gmail.com.
  • The cost of playing in the Classic is $80.00 per person.  The registration cost includes 18 holes of golf, a golf cart, and lunch in the Club House after the event.  Anyone interested can sign up using the Pacific Springs website.  

New Business:

  • The EOSB/picnic planning committee will hold its first meeting on Tuesday, April 9, 7:30 p.m. at the home of Carol Feelhaver, 1867 So. 147 Circle.  Someone to assist with children’s activities is needed.  Any interested individuals are welcome to attend.  
  • There have been several incidents of vandalism in the neighborhood.  Homeowners are asked to watch and report these incidents.
  • Residents are reminded to lock their cars if they are parked outside.  Several residents have reported individuals checking doors on parked cars.  

As there was no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 8:23 p.m. by HOHA President, Luke Hawkins.  The next regular meeting is Thursday, April 11, 2024, 7:30 p.m. at Sean O’Casey’s Pub, 2523 South 140 Avenue, in the back party room. 

2024 HOHA Meeting Schedule-Second Thursday of each month-7:30 p.m.

May 9, June 13, July 11, August 8, September 12, October 10, November 14.  There is no December meeting.
