Harvey Oaks Homeowners Association (HOHA) General Membership Meeting

Thursday, May 9, 2024-7:30 p.m.

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Luke Hawkins, President.

Officers, Committee members, and Area Representatives present at the meeting were: Trent Bradshaw-Treasurer/Golf Classic, John Brehmer-Guidelines/Area 17/Neighborhood Clean-Up/Nominating/Parks, Warren Curry-Newsletter/Area 9, Ashley Doherty-Webmaster, Carol Feelhaver-Secretary/Social/Nominating/Welcome, Sandi Fravel-Area 6, Tim Glover-Nominating, Jim Grabenbaurer-Parks, Nicole Herbert-Social/Area 7, Lacey Ruffino-Family Garage Sale, Traci Selby-Membership/Social/Area 24, Denny Schaeppi-Golf Classic/Social, and Jim Small-Advertising.

Committee Reports:

Nominatingthe following report was given.

  • HOHA has openings in the following areas:

Vice President,

Treasurer, 

Citizens Patrol.

  • There are also openings for volunteers on the Parks, End of Summer Bash/Picnic (EOSB/Picnic), and Nominating committees.

Membership ReportTraci Selby gave the following report.

  • There are 314 households that are members of HOHA for 2024.  This is 40% of the homes in Harvey Oaks.

Parks ReportJim Grabenbaurer gave the following report.

  • The renovations to the entrance islands at 144 and Harvey Oaks Avenue are complete and look great.
  • A tremendous thank you to John Brehmer who has moved rock from the 144 Street island to the 148 Street island to fill in any areas needing it.  Volunteers are needed on Saturday, May 11, to help finish this project.
  • Dead tree limbs have been removed from the islands/parks.

Newsletter Report-Warren Curry gave the following report.

  • The deadline for the June/July newsletter is May 15.
  • More QR codes will be used to refer members to the website for additional information on various events.  

Webpage/Social Media Report-Ashley Doherty stated there was no report.

Advertising Report-Jim Small gave the following report.

  • Current delinquent advertisers, in the newsletter, are in the process of being contacted about renewing their ads.

Guidelines Issues-John Brehmer stated there was no report.

Citizens Patrol Reportthe following report was given.

  • A chairperson for the Citizens Patrol is needed.  Anyone interested can contact Luke Hawkins at lucasmhawkins@gmail.com.  

Social Committee Report-The following reports were given. 

  • The HOHA Spring Candy Hunt was held on Saturday, April 20, 1:00 p.m.  There were 97 adults and children that attended.
  • The Annual Neighborhood Garage Sale was held on April 25, 26, & 27.  Seventeen families participated in the event.
  • The 2024 Harvey Oaks Golf Classic will be Sunday, May 19, with an 8:00 a.m. shot gun start. 
  • The corporate and the beverage sponsors have been obtained.  Fifteen golf holes have sponsors.  To date, 44 golfers have signed up for the event.  The cost is $80.00 per golfer.  The revenue will be used to renovate the entrance islands at 148 and Center.
  • The Children’s Patriotic Parade will be Saturday, June 22, 11:00 a.m. in the middle park.
  • The 2024 Fireworks Display will be Saturday, June 22, at dusk in the North park.  
  • Fundraising efforts continue to meet the revenue goal for the event.  An additional $1,000.00 is still needed.
  • Drew Thompson, licensed pyrotechnican, is in charge of the display.
  • The display can only happen with neighborhood financial support. 
  • Food Vendors have been set up for the display.
  • Burning Bridges-6:00-8:00 p.m.
  • Carousels Desserts (frozen desserts)-gluten and dairy free-7:30-9:00 p.m.
  • Gyro-6:00-8:00 p.m.
  • Jason’s Donuts-7:30-9:00 p.m.
  • Kona Ice-6:00-9:30 p.m.
  • LaGaviota Mexican Food-6:00-8:00 p.m.
  • A reminder, there can be no alcoholic beverages brought into City of Omaha Parks.
  • The 2024 EOSB/picnic will be Saturday, August 10, 5:00-8:00 p.m. in the North park.  
  • The theme of the EOSB/picnic this year is, ‘Harvey Oaks-A Place to Call Home.’
  • Tiny Town (for children age 10 and under) will be back and run from 5:00-7:30 p.m.
  • Since this is a family event, many of the activities will be geared to family involvement.
  • Ten tickets will be given to children, 10 and under, to participate in the games/activities.  
  • Food Vendors at the EOSB/picnic are as follows.
  • Burning Bridges, Cheese Life, Jason’s Donuts, Kona Ice, and Pulled BBQ.  These food trucks will be at the event from 5:00-8:00 p.m.  
  • All current (2024) HOHA member households will be given a $5.00 food ticket per person to use purchasing food from the food trucks.  
  • This event is no cost to current, 2024, HOHA members.  All residents not current HOHA members will be charged $14.00 per person to attend.  Guests of current HOHA members will be charged $7.00 per person to attend.  Grandchildren of current HOHA members are admitted at no cost.  
  • Mike and Natasha Tesner are corporate sponsors for the event.
  • Volunteers are needed to work one hour shifts at the event.  Anyone willing to volunteer can contact Carol Feelhaver, Feelhaver@centurylink.net.  

Neighborhood Clean-Upthe following report was given.  

  • Crescent Oaks will be sponsoring a Spring Clean-Up Day on May 18.  Anyone interested in helping with the event can contact Becky Kane, 402-333-9533, becky@scarlet-thread.com for more information.   
  • There will be a Fall 2024, Clean Up Day in Harvey Oaks.  More information will be coming.

Ball field CommitteeKevin Hughes wasn’t present to give a report.

Treasurer’s Report-Trent Bradshaw gave a report.  

Old Business:

  • None presented.

New Business:

  • The baseball diamond’s back stop needs painting.  John Brehmer agreed to accomplish this task.
  • The weeds around the practice field benches were unusually high.  The City of Omaha has since mowed this area.
  • Mud and dirt has accumulated on the sidewalk around the park’s walking path.  The Parks committee will look into this issue.
  • Residents are reminded to lock their cars if they are parked outside. 
  • Stacy Jolley was thanked for chairing the Spring Candy Hunt.
  • Lacey Ruffino was thanked for chairing the Annual Garage Sale.

As there was no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m. by HOHA President, Luke Hawkins.  The next regular meeting is Thursday, June 13, 2024, 7:30 p.m. at Sean O’Casey’s Pub, 2523 South 140 Avenue, in the back party room. 

2024 HOHA Meeting Schedule-Second Thursday of each month-7:30 p.m.

July 11, August 8, September 12, October 10, November 14.  There is no December meeting.
