Harvey Oaks Homeowners Association (HOHA) General Membership Meeting

Thursday, October 12, 2023-7:30 p.m.

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Corey Podwinski, President.

Officers, Committee members, and Area Representatives present at the meeting were: Trent Bradshaw-Treasurer, John Brehmer-Guidelines/Area 17/Neighbor Clean-Up, Ashley Doherty-Web Page, Carol Feelhaver-Secretary/Social/Nominating/Welcome, Sandi Fravel-Area 6, Jim Grabenbaur-Parks, Luke Hawkins-Vice President, Kevin Hughes-Advertising/Ball Fields/Neighbor Clean-Up, Ashley Podwinski-Social Media, Denny Schaeppi-Advertising/Social, and Traci Selby-Area 25/Membership/Social.

Committee Reports:

Nominating-the following report was submitted.

  • The following slate of officer candidates was presented.

President-Luke Hawkins

Vice President-Vacant

Secretary-Carol Feelhaver

Treasurer-Trent Bradshaw

  • Nominations from the floor were requested, as there were none, the slate of candidates was closed.  
  • It was moved and seconded to accept the slate of officer candidates as presented.  This motion was carried.   

Membership Report-Traci Selby gave the following report.  

  • There are 139 resident homes that have joined HOHA for 2024.
  • The 2024 membership drive has started.  Dues are $50.00 a year.  A letter asking residents to join HOHA has gone out to all residents in Harvey Oaks.  
  • Memberships can be paid with a check, cash, or going to the website and following the prompts under membership.  
  • A ‘Dues Drive -Thru’ will be held on Sunday, November 5, from 12:00-4:00 p.m. at Converge Church’s parking lot.  This will allow residents another option to join HOHA and drop off their dues.  

Parks ReportJim Grabenbaur gave the following report.

  • The entrance island holiday lights will be put up on Sunday, October 22, 1:00-3:00 p.m.  Anyone interested in helping should meet at the church at 1:00 p.m.  
  • John Brehmer, Tom Helm, and Bob Scott will serve on a committee to finalize the renovations of the entrance island at 144 and Harvey Oaks Avenue.

Newsletter Report-Warren Curry wasn’t present to give a report.

  • The deadline for the December/January newsletter is November 15.

Webpage/Social Media ReportAshley Doherty gave the following report.

  • The option to pay membership dues on line has been corrected and is working great.  
  • Residents wanting to use this option can pay dues via PayPal or Venmo.  

Advertising Report-Denny Schaeppi and Kevin Hughes gave the following report.

  • Invoices are being sent out to all advertisers that renewed their ads in the newsletter.  

Guidelines Issues-John Brehmer stated there was no report.  

Citizens Patrol Reportthe following report was given.

  • A chairman for the Citizens Patrol is needed.  Anyone interested can contact Luke Hawkins. (lucashawkins@gmail.com)

Social Committee Report-The following report(s) were given.

  • The HOHA Holiday Festivities will be Sunday, December 3.
  • The 2024 Harvey Oaks Golf Classic will be Sunday, May 19, with an 8:00 a.m. shot gun start.  
  • The 2024 End of Summer Bash/picnic will be Saturday, August 10.  

Neighborhood Clean-Up-John Brehmer and Kevin Hughes gave the following report.

  • Four trash trucks were filled with trash at the event.
  • Electronics, bicycles, metal, and some furniture items were recycled.  
  • A furniture source, to recycle furniture, is needed for next year.  
  • The event was extremely well organized.
  • A large toy horse was brought up to the site.  The item was repaired by the Bicycle Project and given to a special needs four year old child.  The child was so thrilled to receive the item.  The child and her mother wanted to thank Harvey Oaks for the gift.  
  • The FCC workers did an outstanding job of helping at the event.  

Ball field Committee-Kevin Hughes gave the following report.

  • The fall reservation schedule for the field will be on a first come basis.
  • The ball field has been resurfaced and is in great condition.

Treasurer’s Report-Trent Bradshaw gave a report.  

Old Business:

  • There was one home that changed hands in Harvey Oaks during September.  
  • There is a homeless encampment in the wooded area on Dr. Craig Stevens’ property (144 and DuPont Circle).  The Omaha and Douglas County law enforcement offices have been contacted and know about the situation. 
  • Residents are advised to caution their children about playing around the site.  

New Business:

  • A letter will be going out to all residents asking for volunteers for the various HOHA sponsored events.  Volunteers are needed to help HOHA maintain the programs and services for the community.  Without volunteers, HOHA can’t function properly.
  • A Volunteer Recognition/Informational event will be held on Thursday, December 7, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Observatory Bar and Grill.  
  • A special drawing to thank volunteers will be held.   
  • The Holiday Festivities/Gathering will be held on Sunday, December 3.  More information on this event will be coming.  

Announcements

  • Corey Podwinski was thanked for his service as HOHA’s president.
  • John Brehmer, Kevin Hughes, and Derek Menke were thanked for their work on the Neighborhood Clean-Up event.
  • The volunteers that helped at the recent Neighborhood Clean-Up were thanked.
  • Traci Selby was thanked for organizing the 2024 membership drive.   

As there was no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m. by new HOHA President, Luke Hawkins.  The next regular meeting is Thursday, November 9, 2023, 7:30 p.m. at Sean O’Casey’s Pub, 2523 South 140 Avenue, in the back party room. 

2024 HOHA Meeting Schedule-Second Thursday of each month-7:30 p.m.

There will be a Volunteer Recognition/Informational event on Thursday, December 7, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Observatory Bar and Grill, 14525 West Center Road.

January 11, February 8, March 14, April 11, May 9, June 13, July 11, August 8, September 12, October 10, November 14.  There is no December meeting.
