Harvey Oaks Homeowners Association (HOHA) General Membership Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Corey Podwinski, President.
Officers, Committee members, and Area Representatives present at the meeting were: Trent Bradshaw-Treasurer, Warren Curry-Area 9, Carol Feelhaver-Secretary/Social/Nominating/Welcome, Sandi Fravel-Membership/Area 6, Marie & Gates Salistean-Parks, Tim Glover-Nominating, Tracey Ruffino-Garage Sale, Traci Selby-Membership/Area 24, Bobbi Jo Shin-Area 6, and Denny Schaeppi-Advertising/Social.
Committee Reports:
Treasurer’s Report-Trent Bradshaw gave the following report.
- Trent reviewed the financial statements through February 28, 2022.

Membership Report
- The 2022 Membership committee has under gone several changes. The committee is now made up of the following individuals.
Sandi Fravel-liaison to the Area Representatives.
Traci Selby-chairperson, receives memberships new and renewals.
Nominating Report-Tim Glover stated there was no report.
Parks Report–Marie Salstean gave the following report.
- The City of Omaha (City) will be contacted about the over grown low marshy area in the North Park. Currently it is damp and draws mosquitoes.
- The entrance island holiday lights were taken down in February and stored for another year.
Newsletter Report-Christina Muska wasn’t present to give a report.
- The newsletter deadline for the April/May issue is March 15.
- The newsletter deadline for the June/July issue is May 15.
Webpage Report-Ashley Doherty wasn’t present to give a report.
Advertising Report–Denny Schaeppi gave the following report.
- Denny has obtained two new ads and two renewals for the newsletter.
Guidelines Issues-John Brehmer wasn’t present to give a report.
Citizens Patrol Report–Joni Ternes wasn’t present to give a report.
- Volunteers are needed to be patrollers.
Social Committee Report-Carol Feelhaver gave the following report.
- The annual HOHA Garage Sale will be April 28, 29, & 30. Participants are asked to register. Check the webpage for registration information. This event is for current (2022) HOHA members and families.
- The HOHA Spring Candy Hunt is Saturday, April 23, 1:00 p.m. in the South Park. Kona Ice will be at the event also. This event is for all current (2022) HOHA members and families.
Ball field Committee-Kevin Hughes submitted the following report.
- There are currently four of the ten openings filled for the spring practice session. If you are interested in more information contact Kevin Hughes at krhughes10@gmail.com.
- There is graffiti on the Harvey Oaks sign behind the ball field. The City needs to be notified of this situation.
Fireworks Display Committee-The following report was given.
- Drew Thompson was contacted and he is planning on using the North Park for the display again this year. The display should not interfere with the Heartland Preserve development. He will be checking with Bart Emanuel to make sure this is possible and obtain needed permission.
- The following food trucks will be on Shirley Street from 5:00-8:00 p.m. for the Fireworks display. Residents are responsible for purchasing their own food.
- Corn Dog
- Creamery Ice Cream and Cookies
- Hawks Pizza
- Kona Ice
- Laughing Boer
Old Business:
- There was one home that changed hands during February in Harvey Oaks.
- The first annual ‘Harvey Oaks Classic’ golf tournament will be Sunday, May 22, at Pacific Springs Golf Course. The registration fee is $75.00 per person with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m.
- The registration fee includes lunch, a golf cart, and a round of golf.
- There will be cash prizes for the top three teams.
- Non golfers interested in sponsoring the event can sponsor an individual golf hole. The cost is $200.00 and more information is available by contacting Trent Bradshaw trent_m_bradshaw@yahoo.com or Corey Podwinski at paperstones@gmail.com.
- Business/Corporate sponsorships are also available for the event. If anyone is interested please contact Denny Schaeppi at dschaeppi@gmail.com.
- All proceeds from the golf event will be used to update the entrance island at 144 and Harvey Oaks Avenue.
- Registration information will be coming soon. Watch your e-mail or the website for more information.
- Corey Podwinski stated there is nothing new to report on the Heartland Preserve development.
New Business:
- The Neighborhood Clean-Up Day will be scheduled for sometime in May. Derek Menke is the new chairman of this event. The City assigns the date, and as of March 10, nothing has been assigned.
- Volunteers will be needed to help with the event. If you are interested, contact Derek at dmenke@cox.net.
- A HOHA 2022 Football Tailgate Party will be planned for some time in September or early October. The Nebraska football game will be streamed on a large screen television in the North Park. Food trucks will be available at this event.
Announcements:
- A tremendous thank you to all the volunteers who took down the holiday lights and helped store them for another year.
- A tremendous thank you to Lacey Ruffino for agreeing to be the 2022 Garage Sale Chairperson.
- A tremendous thank you to Sandi Fravel and Traci Selby for agreeing to be on the Membership committee.
- Fire hydrants in the neighborhood many times need freshening up. If you would like regulation paint to improve the looks of these hydrants, contact Tom Helm thelm1860@gmail.com.
- All the volunteers that have been planning the ‘Harvey Oaks Classic’ golf tournament.
As there was no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m. The next regular meeting is Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Sean O’Casey’s Pub, 2523 South 140 Avenue, in the back party room.
2022 Meeting Schedule-Second Thursday of each month-7:30 p.m.
May 12, June 9, July 14, August 11, September 8, October 13, November 10. There is no December meeting.
