Harvey Oaks Homeowners Association (HOHA) General Membership Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Corey Podwinski, President. 

Officers, Committee members, and Area Representatives present at the meeting were: John Brehmer-Guidelines/Nominating, Trent Bradshaw-Treasurer, Warren Curry-Area 9, Carol Feelhaver-Secretary/Social/Nominating/Welcome, Jim Grabenbaur-Parks, Kevin Hughes-Baseball Field Reservations/Advertising, Luke Hawkins-Vice-President, Tracey Ruffino-Garage Sale, and Denny Schaeppi-Advertising/Social.

Committee Reports:

Treasurer’s Report-Trent Bradshaw gave the following report.

  • Trent reviewed the financial statements through March 31, 2022.

Membership Report-There was no one present to give a report.

Nominating Report-The following report was given.

  • Volunteers are needed to chair the following events.

Movies in the Park

Citizen’s Patrol

  • Anyone interested can contact Carol Feelhaver.

Parks ReportJim Grabenbaur gave the following report.

  • The damage on the area tennis courts will be repaired soon.  This is a small job and will be worked in when there is an opening in the repair company’s schedule.  
  • Anyone interested in painting the fire hydrant in their neighborhood because of peeling paint can contact Jim or Tom Helm. Official paint colors will be provided.   Painting the hydrant takes about 30 minutes.

Newsletter Report-Christina Muska wasn’t present to give a report. 

  • The newsletter deadline for the June/July issue is May 15.  
  • The newsletter deadline for the August/September issue is July 15.

Webpage Report-Ashley Podwinski gave a report. 

  • Reminder items on the Spring Candy Hunt and the Garage Sale will be posted on social media.
  • An area e-mail will be sent asking for volunteers to chair the Movies in the Park Night, Citizen’s Patrol and volunteers to help with the Neighborhood Clean-Up Day on May 7.  

Advertising ReportDenny Schaeppi gave the following report.

  • Denny has obtained one new ad for the newsletter.

Guidelines Issues-John Brehmer stated there was no report

Citizens Patrol ReportThere was no one present to give a report. 

  • A volunteer is needed to chair this committee.  Joni Ternes is unable to continue to chair the committee.  Anyone interested can contact Carol Feelhaver.
  • Volunteers are needed to be patrollers. 

Social Committee Report-The following report(s) were given.

  • The annual HOHA Garage Sale will be April 28, 29, & 30.  Seventeen families have registered for the event.  This event is for current (2022) HOHA members and families.   
  • The HOHA Spring Candy Hunt is Saturday, April 23, 1:00 p.m. in the South Park.  Kona Ice will be at the event also.  This event is for all current (2022) HOHA members and families.  Raindate is April 24.  
  • The Neighborhood Clean-Up Day will be Saturday, May 7, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. located at Harvey Oaks Elementary School.  Volunteers are needed to work the day of the event.  

A written report on the August 13 End of Summer Bash/Picnic was submitted.

  • The End of Summer Bash/Picnic will be Saturday, August 13, 5:00-8:00 p.m. in the North Park.
  • New this year, a $5.00 food coupon will be given to each registered individual to help cover the cost of food.  The remaining food costs will need to be absorbed by the individuals ordering food.   
  • Food trucks will be at the event from 5:00-8:00 p.m.
  • The food trucks that will be available.

  • Johnny Riccos
  • Kona Ice
  • There will be bounce houses and other activities for the children of all ages.  This will include ‘Tiny Town’ for children five and under.  
  • There will be a Silent Auction with items donated from local businesses.  Youth Emergency Services (YES) is the designated HOHA charity and will receive 20% of the revenue from the Silent Auction.  
  • A Cornhole Tournament will be held.  There is a $10.00 team registration fee, and this amount is donated directly to YES.
  • Anyone interested in participating in the Cornhole Tournament is asked to register on line.  A team is made up of two individuals.  
  • Volunteers are needed to work hour shifts at the picnic.  Without volunteers the picnic will not be able to function properly and some activities may be closed early.
  • Residents can bring desserts (optional) to the event if they would like.  Each item must be individually wrapped.
  • All current (2022) HOHA members are admitted at no charge to the event. Guests of current HOHA members, (members must be present) will be charged $7.00 per person to attend.  All non-joining residents of Harvey Oaks will be charged $14.00 per person to attend the event, and grandchildren of current HOHA members are admitted at no charge.   
  • The 2023 HOHA Membership Drive will be kicked off at the event.
  • Individuals must provide ID if they would like alcoholic beverages.  
  • Shirley Street, from 151 to 152, will be closed from 5:00-9:00 p.m. because of the event.   
  • No alcoholic beverages can be brought into the park by individuals attending the event.   

Ball field Committee-Kevin Hughes gave the following report.

  • There are still a few openings in the spring practice session.  If you are interested in more information contact Kevin Hughes at krhughes10@gmail.com.  

Fireworks Display Committee-The following report was given.

  • The Fireworks Display will Saturday, June 25, at dusk.  
  • Shirley Street, from 151 to 152, will be closed from 5:00 p.m. until dusk.  
  • The following food trucks will be on Shirley Street from 5:00-8:00 p.m. for the fireworks display.  Residents are responsible for purchasing their own food.  
  • Corn Dog
  • Creamery Ice Cream and Cookies
  • Hawks Pizza
  • Kona Ice
  • Laughing Boer
  • Individuals are asked NOT to bring alcoholic beverages into the park.  This is a City of Omaha regulation.
  • Individuals are asked to be respectful of the homes/property backing up to the North Park. 
  • The Children’s Patriotic Parade is Saturday, June 25, at 11:00 a.m. meet at 151 and Arbor Street.  

Old Business:

  • There were three homes that changed hands during March in Harvey Oaks.
  • The first annual Harvey Oaks Classic’ golf tournament will be Sunday, May 22, at Pacific Springs Golf Course, 16810 Harney Street.  The registration fee is $75.00 per person with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m.  
  • The registration fee includes lunch, a golf cart, and a round of golf.  
  • There will be cash prizes for the top three teams.  
  • Non golfers interested in sponsoring the event can sponsor an individual golf hole.  The cost is $200.00 and more information is available by contacting Denny Schaeppi at dschaeppi3@gmail.com.  Sponsorship is still needed for eight holes.  
  • All proceeds from the golf event will be used to update the entrance island at 144 and Harvey Oaks Avenue.
  • Registration for the event is taken on line.  

New Business:

  • The Neighborhood Clean-Up Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 7.  Volunteers will be needed to help with the event from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  If you are interested, contact Carol Feelhaver at Feelhaver@centurylink.net.  The location is Harvey Oaks Elementary School.  
  • A HOHA 2022 Football Tailgate Party will be planned for some time in September or early October.  The Nebraska football game will be streamed on a large screen television in the North Park.  Food trucks will be available at this event.  
  • Warren Curry has drafted a brochure for HOHA on its different programs and services to the community.  This brochure will be distributed to all the homes in Harvey Oaks.  Included in the brochure will be information of the End of Summer Bash/Picnic.  
  • The current budget allows $7,000.00 for the annual End of Summer Bash/Picnic.  Because of high costs and inflation, the estimated cost of the 2022 event will be right at $10,000.00.  This amount includes keeping all the features of the 2021 picnic. 
  • A motion was made and seconded to amend the budget and allow $10,000.00 for the event.  This motion was carried.  

Announcements:

  • Fire hydrants in the neighborhood many times need freshening up.  If you would like regulation paint to improve the look of these hydrants, contact Tom Helm thelm1860@gmail.com of Jim Grabenbaur jpgraben@gmail.com
  • Anyone interested in sponsoring an individual golf hole at the Harvey Oaks Classic can contact Denny Schaeppi at dschaeppi3@gmail.com
  • Volunteers are needed for the following positions.
  • Chair for the Movie in the Park Night
  • Chair for the Citizen’s Patrol
  • Volunteers to work at the Neighborhood Clean-Up Day on Saturday, May 7.
  • Volunteers to help with the End of Summer Bash/Picnic, on Saturday, August 13.  

As there was no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m.  The next regular meeting is Thursday, May 12, 2022 at Sean O’Casey’s Pub, 2523 South 140 Avenue, in the back party room. 

2022 Meeting Schedule-Second Thursday of each month-7:30 p.m.

June 9, July 14, August 11, September 8, October 13, November 10.  There is no December meeting.
