Harvey Oaks Homeowners Association (HOHA) General Membership Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 7:32 p.m. by Corey Podwinski, President.
Officers, Committee members, and Area Representatives present at the meeting were: John Brehmer-Guidelines, Trent Bradshaw-Treasurer, Ashley Doherty-Webmaster, Craig Dulany-Fireworks Liaison, Carol Feelhaver-Secretary/Social/Nominating, Tim Glover-Nominating, Jim Grabenbaur-Parks, Tom Helm-Parks, Kevin Hughes-Baseball Field Reservations/Advertising, Luke Hawkins-Vice-President, Gates & Marie Salistean-Parks, Denny Schaeppi-Advertising/Social, and Donna Thompson-Area 27/Social.
Committee Reports:
Treasurer’s Report-Trent Bradshaw gave the following report.
- Trent reviewed the financial statements through May31, 2022.

Membership Report-There was no one present to give a report.
Nominating Report-The following report was given.
- Volunteers are needed to chair the following events.
Movies in the Park
Citizens Patrol
- Anyone interested can contact Carol Feelhaver.
Parks Report–Jim Grabenbaur and Tom Helm gave the following report.
- Weeds have been sprayed at the 144 Street entrance islands.
- There is a damaged tree branch in the South Park that is hanging low on the trails.
- The City of Omaha (City) is working on replacing the downed tree at 152 and Shirley Street.
Newsletter Report-Christina Muska wasn’t present to give a report.
- The newsletter deadline for the August/September issue is July 15.
- The newsletter deadline for October/November is September 15.
Webpage Report-Ashley Doherty gave the following report.
- Reminder items for the various summer events have been written and will be posted on the webpage or blasted on social media.
Advertising Report–Denny Schaeppi gave the following report.
- Denny has obtained three new ads and two renewals for the newsletter.
Guidelines Issues-John Brehmer stated there is was no report.
Citizens Patrol Report–There was no one present to give a report.
- A volunteer is needed to chair this committee. Anyone interested can contact Carol Feelhaver.
- Volunteers are needed to be patrollers.
Social Committee Report-The following report(s) were given.
- The End of Summer Bash/Picnic will be Saturday, August 13, 5:00-8:00 p.m. in the North Park.
- New this year, a $5.00 food coupon will be given to each registered individual to help cover the cost of food. The remaining food costs will need to be absorbed by the individuals ordering food.
- Food trucks will be at the event from 5:00-8:00 p.m.
- The food trucks that will be available.

- Burning Bridges
- Corn Dogs
- Johnny Riccos Pizza
- Kona Ice
- If there are enough volunteers to staff the events, there will be bounce houses and other activities for the children of all ages. This will include ‘Tiny Town’ for children five and under. Without the appropriate number of volunteers, the events will be closed early.
- Beverages will be free. This includes beer, water and pop.
- There will be a Silent Auction with items donated from local businesses. Youth Emergency Services (YES) is the designated HOHA charity and will receive 20% of the revenue from the Silent Auction.
- Anyone interested in donating to the Silent Auction should contact Denny Schaeppi.
- A Cornhole Tournament will be held. There is a $10.00 team registration fee, and this amount is donated directly to YES.
- Anyone interested in participating in the Cornhole Tournament is asked to register on line. A team is made up of two individuals.
- Residents can bring desserts (optional) to the event if they would like. Each item must be individually wrapped.
- All current (2022) HOHA members are admitted at no charge to the event. Guests of current HOHA members (members must be present) will be charged $7.00 per person to attend. All non-joining residents of Harvey Oaks will be charged $14.00 per person to attend the event, and grandchildren of current HOHA members are admitted at no charge.
- The 2023 HOHA Membership Drive will be kicked off at the event.
- Individuals must provide ID if they would like alcoholic beverages.
- Shirley Street, from 151 to 152, will be closed from 5:00-9:00 p.m. because of the event.
- No alcoholic beverages can be brought into the park by individuals attending the event.
Ball field Committee-Kevin Hughes gave the following report.
- Weeds are starting to be noticeable on the ball diamond. The ball diamond will be sprayed for weeds soon.
- Clean up around the tennis courts area may become necessary.
Fireworks Display Committee-Craig Dulany gave the following report.
- The Fireworks Display will be Saturday, June 25, at dusk. The rain date will be Saturday, July 9.
- Shirley Street, from 151 to 152, will be closed from 5:00 to 11:00 p.m.
- All City permits have been obtained.
- The following food trucks will be on Shirley Street from 5:00-8:00 p.m. for the fireworks display. Residents are responsible for purchasing their own food.

- Individuals are asked NOT to bring alcoholic beverages into the park. This is a City regulation.
- Individuals are asked to be respectful of the homes/properties backing up to the North and Middle Parks.
- Parking on one side of 151 Street only is necessary. This will allow emergency vehicles access to the area if needed.
- Drew Thompson is in charge of the event, and is a licensed pyrotechinican.
- The fireworks clean-up day is Sunday, June 26, 10:00 a.m. in the North park. The Cub Scouts will be at the event to help.
- Children’s Patriotic Parade will be Saturday, June 25, at 11:00 a.m. everyone is to meet between 151-152 and Arbor Street.
Old Business:
- There were two homes that changed hands during May in Harvey Oaks.
- The first annual ‘Harvey Oaks Classic’ golf tournament was held on Sunday, May 22, at Pacific Springs Golf Course, 16810 Harney Street.
- The event made approximately $4,300.00. These funds will be used to renovate the 144 and Harvey Oaks Avenue entrance islands.
- The golf event was very successful, and will be continued next year.
- A golf event planning committee will be established.
New Business:
- Currently, the funds to sponsor the Annual Fireworks Display are approximately $1,500.00 short of the amount necessary for the display to maintain the same high quality as last year. Because of this shortage, an intensive campaign to raise this money will continue. Anyone interested in donating can go to the webpage for instructions.
- It was brought to the attention of the Board that individuals are NOT stopping at stop signs in Harvey Oaks.
- Speeding continues to be a problem in the neighborhood. The speed limit is 25 mph in residential areas.
Announcements:
- Residents are encouraged to sign up and volunteer for the End of Summer Bash/Picnic on August 13. A Sign Up Genius is located on the HOHA website. Without enough volunteers, different events may need to be cancelled. Insurance regulations are very tight regarding bounce houses at events.
As there was no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 8:32 p.m. The next regular meeting is Thursday, July 14, 2022, 7:30 p.m. at Sean O’Casey’s Pub, 2523 South 140 Avenue, in the back party room.
2022 Meeting Schedule-Second Thursday of each month-7:30 p.m.
August 11, September 8, October 13, November 10. There is no December meeting.
