Harvey Oaks Homeowners Association (HOHA) General Membership Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 7:31 p.m. by Corey Podwinski, President.
Officers, Committee members, and Area Representatives present at the meeting were: John Brehmer-Guidelines/Area 17, Trent Bradshaw-Treasurer, Warren Curry-Newsletter/Area 9, Carol Feelhaver-Secretary/Social/Nominating/Welcome, Kevin Hughes-Baseball Field Reservations/Advertising, Luke Hawkins-Vice-President, Gates & Marie Salistean-Parks, and Denny Schaeppi-Advertising/Social. Claire Curry, Area 9, was also in attendance.
Committee Reports:
Treasurer’s Report-Trent Bradshaw gave the following report.
- Trent reviewed the financial statements through August 31, 2022.
- Anyone interested in a copy of this report should contact Trent at trent_m_bradshaw@yahoo.com.
- Trent also reviewed the 2022-23 proposed budget and indicated the changes that were made to the draft copy.
- The changes to the 2022-23 draft budget were discussed. It was moved and seconded to approve the 2022-23 HOHA budget as presented. Motion was carried.

Membership Report-Traci Selby wasn’t present to give a report.
- There are approximately 440 resident homes that have joined HOHA in 2022.
- Currently, there are 46 paid 2023 HOHA members.
- The annual 2023 HOHA membership letter to all residents will be mailed soon. HOHA’s membership is $50.00 per calendar year. Area Representatives will be asked to follow up with all non responding residents.
- A ‘Dues Drive Thru’, will be Sunday, November 6, 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. in the upper parking lot of Converge Church. This is a new location.
Nominating Report–There was no one present to give a report.
Parks Report–Jim Grabenbaur submitted a post meeting report.
- Plans for the renovation of the 144 and Harvey Oaks Avenue Island are underway. The profit from the recent Harvey Oaks Golf Classic will fund this project. The tentative date to start the renovations is the last week in September.
- Three dead trees have been removed from the Middle Park by the City of Omaha.
- Dan and Sallie Frei have mowed the grass by all the entrances to the parks.
- A North Park (ravine/low area) clean-up will be planned for sometime in November.
- The Holiday Lights will be put up the weekend of October 22-23. Time to be determined.
Newsletter Report-Warren Curry gave the following report.
- The deadline for October/November issue of the newsletter is September 15.
Webpage Report–Ashley Doherty wasn’t present to give a report.
Advertising Report-Denny Schaeppi gave the following report.
- All new ads have been placed in the newsletter.
Guidelines Issues-John Brehmer stated there was no report.
Citizens Patrol Report–Joni Ternes wasn’t present to give a report.
- Volunteers are needed to be patrollers. Anyone interested can contact Joni Ternes. (J_ternes1@yahoo.com)
Social Committee Report-The following report(s) were given.
- The Annual HOHA Holiday Parade will be held on Sunday, December 4, 2:00-4:00 p.m.
- The End of Summer Bash/Picnic was Saturday, August 13, 5:00-8:00 p.m. in the North Park. There were 527 people in attendance.
- Denny Schaeppi reported on the Silent Auction
- Mike and Natasha Tesnar were Corporate Sponsors for the event.
- There was over $6,000.00 in cash value for items donated to the auction/Bash.
- There was approximately $3,900.00 in auction revenue.
- A check for $700.00 was written to Youth Emergency Services (YES) as designated charity out of the total revenue.
- Top donors to the Silent Auction were Dawn Crimshaw, Family Fare, Tires Plus, Onyx BMW Car Detailing, and Mt. Crescent Ski Resort.
- All the vendors at the Bash were pleased and want to return in 2023.
- All the food trucks at the Bash were pleased and want to return in 2023.
- Getting enough volunteers for the event continues to be a problem.
- Next year, the Tiny Town feature, will run from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
- The Bash Planning committee was thanked for their time organizing the event. This committee includes Carol Feelhaver, Jerry Ndichafah, Denny Schaeppi, Traci Selby, Donna Thompson, and Alana Whitmarsh.
Ball field Committee-Kevin Hughes gave the following report.
- The ball field is being used for practice sessions on a first come basis.
- Parking around the Park continues to be a problem. It appears parents can’t read the signs.
- It was suggested HOHA consider selling advertising on the baseball field’s back stop to different companies or individuals. This would help with the cost of maintaining the field. The exact price of the advertising hasn’t been determined.
Old Business:
- The Harvey Oaks Golf Classic will be held again next year. The planning for this event will start in January of 2023. If you are interested in serving on the committee contact Trent Bradshaw. Trent_m_bradshaw@yahoo.com.
New Business:
- There will be a Volunteer Appreciation Event on Thursday, December 8 (tentative date) at the Observatory Bar and Grill, 14526 West Center Road, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. All HOHA volunteers will be invited.
- It was suggested a video be made featuring all the accomplishments of HOHA and be placed on the webpage. HOHA needs to find a volunteer to do this project. Lance Ott, at Millard North High School, will be contacted to see if this is something a student would want to take on.
- A list of new residents to Harvey Oaks in 2022 will be forwarded to Traci Selby to determine how many have become actual HOHA members. All new residents have received new resident packets.
Announcements:
- The 2022 Holiday Parade will December 4, 2:00 p.m.
- A Volunteer Appreciation event will be Thursday, December 8, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Observatory Bar and Grill.
- The End of Summer Bash Planning committee was thanked for their time. Carol Feelhaver, Jerry Ndichafah, Denny Schaeppi, Traci Selby, Donna Thompson, and Alana Whitmarsh are on this committee.
As there was no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m. The next regular meeting is Thursday, October 13, 2022, 7:30 p.m. at Sean O’Casey’s Pub, 2523 South 140 Avenue, in the back party room.
