Harvey Oaks Homeowners Association (HOHA) General Membership Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 7:33 p.m. by Corey Podwinski, President.
Officers, Committee members, and Area Representatives present at the meeting were: Trent Bradshaw-Treasurer, John Brehmer-Guidelines/Area 17, Ashley Doherty-Webmaster, Carol Feelhaver-Secretary/Social/Nominating/Welcome, Sandi Fravel-Area 6, Luke Hawkins-Vice President, Kevin Hughes-Advertising/Ball Field, Ashley Podwinski-Social Media, Denny Schaeppi-Advertising/Social, and Traci Selby-Area 25/Membership/Social.
Committee Reports:
Membership Report-Traci Selby gave the following report.
- There are 359 resident homes that are members of HOHA, or approximately 48%.
- A campaign to promote membership before the End of Summer Bash/Picnic (EOSB) has started.
- A letter asking residents to join HOHA will go out in October.
Nominating Report–The following report was given.
- A volunteer to be Citizens Patrol chairperson is needed.
- A volunteer for HOHA Vice President is needed.
- A volunteer for Social Media is needed.
- A volunteer for Treasurer is needed.
- A slate of candidates for HOHA officers will be presented at the September board meeting and voted on at the October meeting.
Parks Report–Tom Helm and Jim Grabenbaur weren’t present to give a report.
Newsletter Report-Warren Curry wasn’t present to give a report.
- The deadline for the October/November newsletter if September 15.
Webpage/Social Media Report–Ashley Doherty-Legge gave the following report.
- Thirty-four families have pre-registered for the End of Summer Bash.
- Information on the EOSB has been put on the webpage and social media.
Advertising Report-Denny Schaeppi gave the following report.
- Denny will be working on advertising renewals for the newsletter.
Guidelines Issues-John Brehmer stated there was no report.
- John will follow up with family on an issue presented at the meeting.
Citizens Patrol Report–the following report was given.
- A chairman for the Citizens Patrol is needed. Anyone interested can contact Luke Hawkins. (lucashawkins@gmail.com)
Social Committee Report-The following report(s) were given.
- The HOHA Holiday Party will be Sunday, December 3.
- The 2024 Harvey Oaks Golf Classic will be Sunday, May 19, with an 8:00 a.m. shot gun start.
End of Summer Bash/Picnic
- Dawn Crimshaw will be the corporate sponsor of the EOSB.
- The event will be Saturday, August 12, 5:00-8:00 p.m. in the North Park.
- Shirley Street from 151 to 152 will be closed for the safety of those attending the event. Food trucks will be parked at this location.
- Tiny Town will be back for children 10 years of age or under.
- There will be activities for children 11 years of age or older.
- There will be live entertainment.
- Twelve tickets will be given to all children for games/activities at registration.
- A Silent Auction will be held from 5:00-8:30 p.m. and 20% of the revenue will be donated to Youth Emergency Services (YES). YES is HOHA’s designated charity again this year.
- There is approximately $7,000.00 in product donations for the Silence Auction.
- The vendor list has been confirmed with 12 vendors participating.
- In order for this event to be successful, and accommodate the City’s restrictions, more volunteers are necessary to monitor the children’s activities. It is estimated 15 volunteers will be needed per hour to monitor the children’s activities. If there aren’t enough volunteers many of the activities will have to close early for lack of supervision.
- There will be complimentary drinks at the event. Anyone wanting an alcoholic beverage must provide proof of age. This is an insurance requirement. No alcoholic beverages can be brought into the park by residents.
- All current 2023 HOHA members are admitted at no cost. Residents that aren’t current HOHA members will be charged $14.00 per person to attend. Guests of current HOHA members will be charged $7.00 per person to attend. Grandchildren of current HOHA members will be able to attend at no charge.
- The EOSB kicks off the 2024 HOHA Membership Drive. HOHA dues are $50.00 per year. HOHA membership goes for the calendar year, January 1-December 31.
- Flyers were delivered to all homes inviting them to the EOSB.
- New this year, set up for the EOSB will be Saturday, August 12, 10:00-11:30 a.m.
Ball field Committee-Kevin Hughes gave the following report.
- The fall reservation schedule for the field will be on a first come basis.
Treasurer’s Report-Trent Bradshaw submitted a written report.
- Anyone interested in a copy of this report should contact Trent at trent_m_bradshaw@yahoo.com.
- A budget for 2023-24 was presented and reviewed. Several cost cutting suggestions were suggested. The budget will be formally accepted at the September Board meeting.
Old Business:
- There were two homes that changed hands in Harvey Oaks during July.
- Nothing was reported on the proposed apartment complex at 144 and Dupont Court.
New Business:
- A detailed discussion on the need for additional HOHA volunteers was held. Many of the current officers/Area Representatives are requesting replacement. Methods to get families interested in helping with HOHA were discussed. Volunteer recruitment will start at the EOSB.
- HOHA is strong organization, but needs new and interested people to keep the organization strong and active.
- Information on the date of the Neighborhood Fall Clean-Up Event will be coming.
- Parents of children riding bicycles and motorized vehicles will be asked to watch their children closely. Several incidents were discussed where harm could happen to these children because they are riding in the streets. An item will be put in the newsletter.
Announcements
- Dan and Sallie Frei were thanked from their work edging the sidewalks in the parks.
- Area Representatives were thanked for distributing the flyers on the EOSB.
- Volunteers are still needed for the EOSB.
- The EOSB planning committee was thanked for their work on the event.
As there was no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 9:08 p.m. The next regular meeting is Thursday, September 14, 2023, 7:30 p.m. at Sean O’Casey’s Pub, 2523 South 140 Avenue, in the back party room.

October 12, November 9. There is no December meeting.
