Harvey Oaks Homeowners Association (HOHA) General Membership Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Luke Hawkins, President.

Officers, Committee members, and Area Representatives present at the meeting were: Trent Bradshaw-Treasurer/Golf Classic, John Brehmer-Guidelines/Area 17/Neighborhood Clean-Up, Ashley Doherty-Webpage, Carol Feelhaver-Secretary/Social/Nominating/Welcome, Tim Glover-Nominating, Lacey Ruffino-Yard sale/Family Holiday Party, and Denny Schaeppi-Advertising/Social/Golf Classic.

Special guests include: Michael Barnes-Area 15, Amber Castillo-Area 9, and Patrick Shannon-Area 15.

Committee Reports:

Nominating-the following report was given.

  • There are currently opening in the positions of Vice President, Citizen Patrol Coordinator, and Webpage Content Manager.  Anyone with possible names of candidates is asked to contact Luke Hawkins.  

Membership ReportTraci Selby wasn’t present to give a report.  

  • A ‘Dues Drive Thru’ was held on November 5, in the parking lot of Converge Church.  
  • There are approximately 235 households that are members of HOHA for 2024.

Parks ReportTom Helm gave the following report.

  • The entrance island holiday lights were put up on October 22.  A tremendous thank you to the volunteers that helped with this project.  
  • The lights will be lit after Thanksgiving.
  • John Brehmer, Tom Helm, and Bob Scott will serve on a committee to finalize the renovations of the entrance island at 144 and Harvey Oaks Avenue.  The committee will meet to determine what exactly will be done and the cost involved.

Newsletter Report-Warren Curry wasn’t present to give a report.

  • The deadline for the February/March newsletter is January 15.  
  • The newsletter has a new format and has been reduced in size.

Webpage/Social Media Report-Ashley Doherty gave the following report.

  • The option to pay membership dues on line has been corrected and is working great.  
  • Residents wanting to use PayPal or Venmo to pay their dues should go to the HOHA website (www.harveryoaks.com).
  • Ashley Doherty is meeting with a candidate interested in the Webpage Content Manager position in the upcoming week.

Advertising Report-Denny Schaeppi gave the following report.

  • Invoices are being sent out to all advertisers that are delinquent in renewal responses.

Guidelines Issues-John Brehmer gave the following report.

  • There were some parking issues reported and are in the process of being cleared up.

Citizens Patrol Reportthe following report was given.

  • A chairperson for the Citizens Patrol is needed.  Anyone interested can contact Luke Hawkins. (lucashawkins@gmail.com)

Social Committee Report-The following reports were given.

  • The HOHA Family Holiday Party will be Sunday, December 3, 2:00-4:00 p.m. in the lower level of Converge Church.  This event is for current (2024) HOHA members and their families.  All residents that haven’t joined HOHA can attend for $14.00 per person.  Friends of current HOHA members can attend for $7.00 each.  Grandchildren of current members are always admitted at no charge.  Current 2024 dues can be paid at this event.  
  • The 2024 Harvey Oaks Golf Classic will be Sunday, May 19, with an 8:00 a.m. shot gun start.  
  • The 2024 Fireworks Display will be Saturday, June 22, at dusk in the North park.  
  • The 2024 End of Summer Bash/picnic will be Saturday, August 10, 5:00-8:00 p.m. in the North park.  

Neighborhood Clean-UpJohn Brehmer gave the following report.

  • There will be a fall 2024, clean up event.  More information will be coming.

Ball field CommitteeKevin Hughes wasn’t present to give a report.

  • The fall reservation schedule for the field is on a first come basis.
  • The spring reservation schedule will start in February of 2024.  

Treasurer’s Report-Trent Bradshaw gave a report.  

  • Anyone interested in a copy of this financial report through October 31, 2023 should contact Trent at trent_m_bradshaw@yahoo.com.

Old Business:

  • There were four homes that changed hands in Harvey Oaks during October.  

New Business:

  • A letter to all residents asking for volunteers for the various HOHA sponsored events is in process.  Various mailing sources are being contacted for a delivery price.  Volunteers are needed to help HOHA maintain the programs and services for the community.  Without volunteers, HOHA can’t function properly and events may need to be cancelled.  
  • A Volunteer Recognition/Informational event will be held on Thursday, December 7, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Observatory Bar and Grill, 14525 West Center Road.  Complementary drink and food will be available.  
  • A special drawing to thank volunteers will be held.   

Announcements

  • The volunteers who helped putting up the holiday lights were thanked for their help.  Jim Grabenbaur and Tom Helm organized the event.  
  • The volunteers that worked the ‘Dues Drive Thru’ were thanked.  These volunteer include Carol Feelhaver, Sandi Fravel, Luke Hawkins, Lacey Ruffino, and Traci Selby.
  • Ashley Podwinski was thanked for her years of service to HOHA as the Website Content Manager.

As there was no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 8:09 p.m. by HOHA President, Luke Hawkins.  The next regular meeting is Thursday, January 11, 2024, 7:30 p.m. at Sean O’Casey’s Pub, 2523 South 140 Avenue, in the back party room. 

2024 HOHA Meeting Schedule-Second Thursday of each month-7:30 p.m.

There is no December meeting.

There will be a Volunteer Recognition/Informational event on Thursday, December 7, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Observatory Bar and Grill, 14525 West Center Road.

February 8, March 14, April 11, May 9, June 13, July 11, August 8, September 12, October 10, November 14.  There is no December meeting.
