Harvey Oaks Homeowners Association (HOHA) General Membership Meeting

Thursday, May 13, 2021 7:30 p.m. Zoom Meeting-Omaha, NE 

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Derek Menke, president. 

Officers, Committee members, and Area Representatives present at the meeting were: John Brehmer-Guidelines, Trent Bradshaw-Treasurer/Clean Up Day, Carol Feelhaver-Secretary/Social/Nominating/Welcome, Tim Glover-Nominating, Jim Grabenbaur-Parks, Randy Mohr-Membership, Corey Podwinski-Vice President, Denny Schaeppi-Advertising/Social, Jonie Ternes-Citizens Patrol, and Donna Thompson-Area 27.  Guest, Drew Thompson-fireworks display, was also on the meeting.

Committee Reports:

Treasurer’s Report-Trent Bradshaw gave the following report.

  • Trent reviewed the balance sheet and income statement through April 30, 2021.

Membership ReportRandy Mohr gave the following report.

  • There are currently 418 HOHA household members for 2021.  There were 390 members at this time during 2020.  

Nominating Report-Carol Feelhaver gave the following report.

  • There are currently openings for volunteers in the following areas.
  • Children’s Play Group Chair
  • Movie in the Park Night Chair
  • Area Representative for Area 9.  This includes 14712 thru 14893 on Harvey Oaks Avenue and 14704-14716 on Francis Circle.

Parks ReportJim Grabenbaur gave the following report.

  • There was some damage to the tennis court surface and it will be repaired.
  • The City of Omaha (City) will paint over the pickle ball lines on the tennis courts.
  • There is some graffiti in the middle park.
  • The port-a-potty by the practice field was supposed to be located at the ball fields along Center Street.
  • Additional electricity will be installed at the back of the island at 144 and Harvey Oaks Avenue and will be underground. 
  • A dead tree in the south park close to Center Street has been removed.
  • A load of sand and top dressing has been delivered to the practice ball diamond for a better surface.  
  • Marie Salistean has mowed around the newly planted trees close to the school and was thanked for her efforts.  

Newsletter Report-Christina Muska wasn’t present to give a report.

  • The newsletter deadline for the August/September issue is July 15.

Webpage Report-Ashley Doherty wasn’t present to give a report.

Advertising ReportDenny Schaeppi gave the following report.  

  • Denny was able to get two new ads for the newsletter.
  • All current newsletter advertisers have been asked if they want to continue to advertise.  All those not wanting to advertise have been eliminated.  All renewing advertisers have been invoiced.  
  • Denny was able to secure four potential sponsors for the Fireworks Display on June 26.

Guidelines Issues-John Brehmer stated there was no report. 

Citizens Patrol ReportJonie Ternes gave the following report.  

  • The Citizen Patrol has been patrolling the neighborhood since April 9.
  • Recruitment of new patrollers is needed badly.  All Area Representatives will be asked to walk a flyer around their area asking for volunteers.  Jonie will get the flyer to the representatives.
  • Garage doors are being left open, inadvertently, and this has been the major concern reported by the patrollers.

Social Committee Report-The following report was given.

  • The annual Candy Hunt will be Saturday, June 5, 1:00 p.m. in the South Park. Registration/check in starts at 12:30 p.m.  Kona Ice will be at the Candy Hunt this year.  Parents can purchase a treat for their children if they would like. 
  • The Children’s Patriotic Parade will be Saturday, June 26, at 11:00 a.m.  Registration/check in starts at 10:30 a.m.  
  • The annual Fireworks Display will be Saturday, June 26, and will include the addition of food trucks from 5:00-9:00 p.m. before the display.  
  • The Fireworks Clean Up will be Sunday, June 27, 10:00 a.m. in the North Park.  
  • The Harvey Oaks Family Picnic will be held on Saturday, August 14, 5:00-8:00 p.m.  Volunteers will be needed to work one hour shifts at the event.  
  • Anyone interested in donating items to the Picnic’s Silent Auction can contact Denny Schaeppi, dschaeppi3@gmail.com.

Ball field Committee-Kevin Hughes wasn’t present to give a report.  

Old Business:

  • There were four homes that changed hands during April in Harvey Oaks.
  • There were 22 families that signed up to participate in the Annual HOHA Garage Sale.  Mary Padilla chaired the event and did a great job.  Ashley Sum, Berkshire Hathaway Realty, printed the master list of sales for the event.  
  • The Neighbor Clean-Up Day on May 8 was very successful.  There was some difficulty getting enough help for the event.  It was suggested we start earlier next year recruiting volunteers.  Trent Bradshaw was thanked for chairing this event.  There was $402.00 collected for the Fireworks Display on June 26.  All the volunteers were thanked for their time.  
  • The Neighborhood Clean-Up Day filled four City trash trucks, collected two full dumpsters of recyclable metal, collected a truck load of furniture and home furnishings, collected 2,390 pounds of recyclable electronics, and collected a large number of bicycles.  

New Business:

  • Drew Thompson reported all forms and permits have been obtained for the Fireworks Display on June 26. Food Trucks will be at the Fireworks Display from 5:00-9:00 p.m. on June 26.  The four business sponsors will have a tent and banners at the display.  

There will be a yardwaste spring “grace” period, May 17-June 25, when homeowners can put out excessive yardwaste that will not fit in the cart and have it removed.  Extra lawn waste needs to be bagged or tied like in previous years.

Anyone that would like to report neighborhood problems should call the Mayor’s Hotline, 444-5555. 

All the volunteers and recyclers at the Clean Up Day were thanked.

The four employees of FCC were thanked for their help at Clean Up Day.

Mary Padilla was thanked for her work on the garage sale.  

Converge Church will be contacted to see if they are ready to allow HOHA to meet in their facility.   

As there was no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 8:20 p.m.  The next regular meeting is Thursday, June 10, 2021, 7:30 p.m. method or place to be determined.

2021 Meeting Schedule

Meetings for 2021 are as follows on the second Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. July 8, August 12, September 9, October 14, and November 11.  There is no December meeting.  The method or location of these meetings will be announced at a later date.
