Harvey Oaks Homeowners Association (HOHA) General Membership Meeting
Thursday, May 14, 2020 7:30 p.m.

The meeting was called to order by Derek Menke, president.

Officers, Committee members, and Area Representatives present at the meeting were: Trent Bradshaw-Treasurer/Clean Up Day, John Brehmer-Area 17/Guideline/Nominating, Tom Davies-Area 8/Social, Carol Feelhaver-Secretary/Social/Nominating, Jim Grabenbauer-Parks,  Kevin Hughes-Advertising/Ball diamond, Randy Mohr-Membership, Corey & Ashley Podwinski-Vice President, Web page content, Shane Sullivan-Social, Donna Thompson-Area 27, and Thom Sisson-Webmaster.  Also included in the meeting was Drew Thompson-Fireworks organizer/technician.

Committee Reports:

Treasurer’s Report-Trent Bradshaw gave the following report.

  • Trent reviewed the balance sheet and income statement through April 30, 2020.
  • Anyone interested in a copy of these documents should contact Trent at trent_m_bradshaw@yahoo.com.

Membership ReportRandy Mohr gave the following report.

  • There are 390 current Harvey Oaks households that have paid 2020 dues.  This is out of 779 total homes.
  • There were 426 memberships in 2019 at this time.

Nominating Report-The following report was given.

  • A volunteer is needed to fill the position of Citizen Patrol Chairperson.  The current chairman has asked to be released from this position.

Parks ReportJim Grabenbauer gave the following report.

  • Additional monies have been collected for the Holiday Light project.  These additional funds will allow HOHA to decorate more island trees.
  • Several newly planted trees had died in the parks due to lack of water.  A greater effort will be made to get more water to the trees for their continued growth.
  • Tom Helm has priced dog waste containers for the parks.  One unit will be purchased to see if this item will be used.  It was noted the units only dispenses bags for dog waste.
  • Jim has looked into director and officer liability insurance rider to the current HOHA insurance policy.  Dave Chastain, Chastain Insurance Agency, was contacted and asked for information.  This item will be tabled until the August meeting.  HOHA’s current insurance policy expires in September.
  • The trees in the entrance islands will be trimmed.

Newsletter Report-Christina Muska wasn’t present to give a report.

  • The newsletter deadline for the June/July issue is May 15.

Webpage Report-Thom Sission and Ashley Podwinski gave the following report.

  • The webpage is working well and the needed updates have been made.

Advertising Report-Denny Schaeppi wasn’t present to give a report.

Guidelines Issues-John Brehmer gave the following report.

  • The house at 14718 Arbor Street continues to be a problem.  The current renter is renting out rooms in the house to different individuals.  This is causing traffic to back up on Arbor Street.  It was noted Harvey Oaks is zoned for single family dwellings.  John will contact the owner of the house.
  • The house at 15223 Shirley Street appears to be in the process of renovations.  John will contact the attorney handling the sale for a more complete update.
  • There is a house on 2525 So. 153 Circle that needs some upkeep and John agreed to contact the owner.

Citizens Patrol ReportRudy Padilla wasn’t present to give a report.

Social Committee Report-The following report was given.

Due to the COVID-19 virus situation, HOHA sponsored events have been cancelled and moved to alternative dates.  The HOHA Board apologizes for this current situation and is asking for patiences and understanding.

  • The Annual HOHA Family Picnic-There is some question if the City of Omaha (City) will allow large crowds to gather in public places due to the COVID-19 virus. HOHA doesn’t want to cancel the picnic, but it may have to be held at a different date and in a different format.  The idea of Area Block Parties was presented and discussed.  A final decision will be made on July 1.
  • The annual Family Garage Sale-This event will be rescheduled to sometime in the fall.
  • The annual Spring Candy Hunt-This event will be rescheduled to sometime in the fall.
  • The Movies in the Park night-This event will be rescheduled to sometime in the fall.
  • The Children’s Patriotic Parade-This event will be rescheduled to sometime in the fall.
  • The annual HOHA Fireworks Display-Drew Thompson reported he has been unable to get the City to issue a permit for the display or give him any information on the current status of the parks. Drew has agreed to put on a display later in the year, if this becomes necessary and the City allows large crowds to gather in public places in late summer or early fall.

Ball Field Report-Kevin Hughes gave the following report.

  • Renovations to the North Park’s ball diamond have been completed.  Kevin was thanked for his efforts on this project.
  • A schedule to drag the ball diamond will be developed to keep the diamond in proper shape.
  • Team practices will be starting June 1.

Old Business:

  • There were two homes that changed hands during April in Harvey Oaks.

New Business:

  • The Heartwood Preserve that backs up to portions of Harvey Oaks is under new development management. Noodle companies are no longer involved in this project.
  • The City’s Planning Board has met with the new development company and has urged them to keep all the promises previously made on the project.
  • The biggest issue discussed was the tree buffer zone promised between the project and Harvey Oaks.
  • Currently, all the dead trees/brush has been removed from the proposed buffer zone by the developer.
  • Corey Podwinski, HOHA Vice President, has been in contact with the new development company and will continue to represent HOHA and will disseminate information to the residents.
  • Dialogue has been established with the new development company to make sure the interests of Harvey Oaks residents are represented.

Announcements:

  • The Neighborhood Clean-Up Day has been rescheduled to the fall.
  • Carol and Mike Whetstine were thanked for all their work on the 144 Street entrance island.
  • Congratulations 2020 Harvey Oaks graduates and best wishes for your future.

As there was no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m.  The next meeting is Thursday, May 11, 2020, 7:30 p.m. method or place to be determined.

2020 Meeting Schedule

July 9, August 13, September 10, October 8, November 12, there is no December meeting.  The meetings are the second Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at Converge Church.  (Or currently by Zoom conference call/meeting)
