Harvey Oaks Homeowners Association (HOHA) General Membership Meeting

Thursday, January 9, 2020 7:30 p.m.

Converge Church-14515 Harvey Oaks Avenue-Omaha, NE

The meeting was called to order by Corey Podwinski, Vice-President.

Officers, Committee members, and Area Representatives present at the meeting were: Trent Bradshaw-Treasurer/Clean-Up Day Chairman, John Brehmer-Area 17/Guideline/Nominating, Tom Davies-Area 8/Social, Carol Feelhaver-Secretary/Social/Nominating, Jim Grabenbauer-Parks, Tom Helm-Parks, Kevin Hughes-Advertising/Ball field, Randy Mohr-Membership, Ashley Podwinski-Web page content, Denny Schaeppi-Advertising/Social, Traci Selby-Webpage Content/Area 26/Newsletter, Thom Sisson-Webmaster, and Donna Thompson-Area 27.  Special guests include Barb Velinsky-Area 15 and Jason Velinsky-Pacific Hollow.

Committee Reports:

Treasurer’s Report-Trent Bradshaw gave the following report.

  • Trent submitted a balance sheet and income statement through December 31, 2019.
  • Anyone interested in a copy of these documents should contact Trent at trent_m_bradshaw@yahoo.com.

Membership ReportRandy Mohr gave the following report.

  • There are 332 current Harvey Oaks households that have paid 2020 dues.  This is out of 779 total homes.

Nominating Report-Carol Feelhaver gave the following report.

  • Volunteers have been found to fill the positions of newsletter editor (Traci Selby), garage sale chairperson (Mary Padilla), and area representative in Area 21 (Ashley Hineline).

Parks ReportJim Grabenbauer and Tom Helm gave the following report.

  • Several residents have indicated the island holiday light displays needed to be increased in 2020.
  • Barb Velinsky had posted a message on Next Door stating this concern.
  • Several other residents had responded and offered to contribute funds to increase the display.
  • Jim and Tom showed examples of lighting displays they are considering for this project.
  • A motion was made by Kevin Hughes to increase the island lighting keeping within a budget of $2,000.00.  Trent Bradshaw seconded the motion.  The motion was carried.
  • A mini fundraiser will be held to assist with this project.
  • Jim also mentioned island caretakers are needed for the 144 Street, 148 Street, and 151 Street islands.  The current volunteers have asked to be relieved of this responsibility.
  • There are several dead trees in the Middle Park that need to be removed.

Newsletter Report-Christina Muska wasn’t present to give a report.

  • The newsletter deadline for the February/March issue is January 15.
  • Christina will be resigning as editor and Traci Selby will be the new editor.

Webpage Report-Thom Sisson gave the following report.

  • The webpage is operating smoothly.
  • Residents that haven’t paid their 2020 dues have lost access to the webpage.  This can be reinstated when dues are received.
  • Ashley Podwinski mentioned the website is constantly being “refreshed and updated” when new information is available.

Advertising Report-Kevin Hughes/Denny Schaeppi gave the following report.

  • Ads keep coming in for the newsletter.  But it has been difficult to obtain ads for the directory.  For this reason there will be very few ads in the directory.

Guidelines Issues-John Brehmer stated there was no report.

Citizens Patrol ReportRudy Padilla wasn’t present to give a report.

Social Committee Report-The following report was given.

  • Approximately 150 individuals attended the Family Holiday Party on December 1. Becky Tines was thanked for organizing this event.
  • Shane Sullivan reported the Annual HOHA Family Picnic will be held on Saturday, August 15, 5:00-8:00 p.m. in the North park.
  • Volunteers are badly needed to be part of the picnic planning committee. The first planning committee meeting is Tuesday, January 21, 7:00 p.m. at Sean O’Casey’s Pub.  Anyone is welcome to attend.
  • A list of the picnic planning committee meeting dates and times will be developed and published.
  • The annual Family Garage Sale will be April 23, 24, 25. Residents are asked to register for this event by April 15, in order to be placed on the master list of sales.  The resident needs to be a current HOHA member to be placed on the master list.
  • The annual Spring Candy Hunt will be Saturday, April 25, 1:00 p.m. in the South park.
  • The Movies in the Park night will be Friday, June 5, at dusk in the North Park. Rain date is June 12.
  • Children’s Patriotic Parade-will be Saturday, June 27-11:00 a.m. in the South Park
  • The annual HOHA Fireworks display will be Saturday, June 27, at dusk in the North park.
  • Fireworks clean-up day-will be Sunday, June 28, 10:00 a.m. in the North Park

Ball Field Report-Kevin Hughes gave the following report.

  • Over half of the funds necessary for the practice field renovations have been raised.
  • It was decided to go ahead with the project so the field is ready for spring sign-ups.
  • Kevin has implemented a fundraising effort to help get funds for the necessary landscaping materials needed for this project.
  • Kevin will start practice time sign-ups in February.

Old Business:

  • There were 49 homes that changed hands in 2019 in Harvey Oaks.  In 2018 there were 27.  The average number of homes that have changed hands during the past six years has been 38.
  • The thank you volunteer event held on December 12 was well attended.  Denny Schaeppi was thanked for setting this event up.

New Business:

  • Rudy Padilla has indicated he would like to be relieved of duties as the Citizen Patrol coordinator.  A new volunteer will need to be found.
  • A follow-up membership drive will be held in March of 2020.  This event will pick up any new residents or individuals who have forgotten to pay their dues.  It was suggested a postcard be sent to all non-joining residents as a reminder.  Becky Tines will be contacted so this can be organized.

Announcements:

  • Becky Tines was thanked for organizing the Family Holiday Party.
  • Cub Scout Troop 435, Carol Feelhaver, Chelsea and Isaac Kawakami, Sicily Kuch, Derek and Julie Menke and family, Ashley & Corey Podwinski, Thom Sisson, Monica Urbanski, Elle, Cecelia & Audrey Ward, and Amelia Wheeler were thanked for helping at the Holiday Party.
  • Ashley Hineline was thanked for assuming the duties of Area Representative for Area 21.
  • Mary Padilla was thanked for agreeing to be garage sale chairperson again for 2020.
  • Traci Selby was thanked for assuming the duties as editor of the newsletter.
  • Christina Muska was thanked for her years of service as the newsletter editor.
  • Jim Champion and Carol and Mike Whetstine were thanked for their hours working on the entrance islands.

As there was no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 8:35 p.m.  The next meeting is Thursday, February 13, 2020, 7:30 p.m. at Converge Church (formerly Harvey Oaks Baptist Church).

February 13, March 12, April 9, May 14, June 11, July 9, August 13, September 10, October 8, November 12, there is no December meeting.  The meetings are the second Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at Converge Church.
