Harvey Oaks Homeowners Association (HOHA) General Membership Meeting

Thursday, April 8, 2021 7:30 p.m. Zoom Meeting-Omaha, NE

The meeting was called to order at 7:30pm by Derek Menke, president.

Officers, Committee members, and Area Representatives present at the meeting were: John Brehmer-Guidelines, Trent Bradshaw-Treasurer/Clean Up Day, Ashley Doherty-Webpage, Carol Feelhaver-Secretary/Social/Nominating/Welcome, Bobbi Jo Shui-Area 6, Tom Helm-Parks, Stacy Jolley-Membership/Social/Area 26, Randy Mohr-Membership, Ashley and Corey Podwinski-Webpage Content/Vice President, Marie Salistean-Parks, and Denny Schaeppi-Advertising/Social.

Committee Reports:

Treasurer’s Report-Trent Bradshaw gave the following report.

  • Trent reviewed the balance sheet and income statement through March 31, 2021.
  • Anyone interested in a copy of these documents should contact Trent at trent_m_bradshaw@yahoo.com.

Membership ReportRandy Mohr and Stacy Jolley gave the following report.

  • There are currently 409 HOHA household members for 2021. There were 388 members at this time during 2020.
  • Stacy Jolley reported the 2021 HOHA directories have been mailed to all current HOHA members.
  • Next year, the directory will be put on-line. Current HOHA members can have the option of getting a printed copy if they prefer.
  • Any current (2021) HOHA member that didn’t receive a copy of the directory can contact Carol Feelhaver for a copy.

Nominating Report-Carol Feelhaver gave the following report.

  • There are currently openings for volunteers in the following areas.
    • Children’s Play Group Chair
    • Movie in the Park Night Chair
    • Area Representative for Area 9. This includes 14712 thru 14893 on Harvey Oaks Avenue and 14704-14716 on Francis Circle.
  • Anyone interested, is asked to contact Carol Feelhaver at feelhaver@centurylink.net.

Parks ReportTom Helm gave the following report

  • A load of sand will be coming to mix in the current soil on the ball diamond for a better surface.
  • The Doggie Waste Station on Arbor Street needs to be restocked with bags.
  • There is damage to a small section on the surface of the tennis court. It will be repaired.
  • The lights on the tennis courts are working great.
  • It was suggested a No Skateboarding on the Tennis Courts sign be put up.
  • The trash barrel by the tennis courts is missing.

Newsletter Report-Christina Muska wasn’t present to give a report.

  • The newsletter deadline for the June/July issues is May 15.

Webpage Report-Ashley Doherty gave the following report

  • The new webpage is in the final stages of development and undergoing final testing.

Advertising Report-Denny Schaeppi gave the following report.

  • Denny was able to secure four potential sponsors for the Fireworks Display on June 26.

Guidelines Issues-John Brehmer gave the following report.

  • The rental house at 14733 Arbor Street has been vacated.
  • There is a house at 146 and Harvey Oaks Avenue being occupied by two families.  This situation will be monitored.

Citizens Patrol ReportJonie Ternes wasn’t present to give report.

Social Committee Report-The following report was given.

  • The Annual Garage Sale will be held on April 29, 30, & May 1.  Any current HOHA member interested in participating needs to register with Mary Padilla.
  • The annual Fireworks Display will be Saturday, June 26, and will include the addition of food trucks before the display.
  • The Spring Candy Hunt will be held on Saturday, June 5, 1:00 p.m. in the South Park.  Raindate is Sunday, June 13, 1:00 p.m.
  • The Harvey Oaks Family Picnic will be held on Saturday, August 14, 5:00-8:00 p.m.  The planning committee meetings are the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.
  • Anyone interested in donating items to the Picnic’s Silent Auction can contact Denny Schaeppi, dschaeppi3@gmail.com.

Ball Field Report-Kevin Hughes gave the following report.

Old Business:

  • There were no homes that changed hands during March in Harvey Oaks.

New Business:

  • A discussion was held on the fireworks display planned for June 26.  Because the display was held four months later in 2020, the donations collected for the 2021 event are not as large.  Drew Thompson was contacted and $7,500.00 is the cost of the display. Several different fundraising ideas were presented and discussed.
  • Volunteers will be at the Neighborhood Clean-Up Day on Saturday, May 8 to collect additional funds for the Fireworks Display.
  •  Reminders will be placed on social media about the Fireworks Display and also asking for funds.
  • Volunteers are needed to work at the Neighborhood Clean Up Event, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.   If you are interested contact Trent Bradshaw at trent_m_bradshaw@yahoo.com.
  • Clean-up volunteers will be asked to wear gloves and masks.
  • The ROTC from UNO and Millard South can be contacted and asked to volunteer.
  • Kevin Hughes is developing a Sign-Up Genius for the Clean-Up Day and will get the information to Trent.
  • The Clean-Up Day will also accept used electronic devices, metal, bicycles, and furniture.
  • There will be a yardwaste spring “grace” period, May 17-June 25, when homeowners can put out excessive yardwaste that will not fit in the cart and have it removed.  Extra lawn waste needs to be bagged or tied like in previous years.
  • All HOHA sponsored events are always free to current HOHA members.  Residents of Harvey Oaks that aren’t current HOHA members can attend events for $14.00 per person.  Guests of current HOHA members can attend for $7.00 per person.  Grandchildren of current HOHA members are admitted at no charge at all events.

Announcements:

  • Anyone that would like to report neighborhood problems should call the Mayor’s Hotline, 444-5555.
  • The Garage Sale is April 29, 30, and May 1.
  • The Neighborhood Clean-Up Day is Saturday, May 8.
  • The Annual HOHA Fireworks Display is Saturday, June 26, at dusk in the North Park. The Fireworks clean up day on Sunday, June 27.
  • The Millard North Marching Band will have a March-a-thon on Saturday, May 15.  The band will start at 9:30 a.m. at Converge church and parade through Harvey Oaks.  More information is on the website and will be on social media.  It was decided HOHA would make a $100.00 donation to the band fund.

As there was no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m.  The next regular meeting is Thursday, May 13, 2021, 7:30 p.m. method or place to be determined.

2021 Meeting Schedule

Meetings for 2021 are as follows on the second Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. June 10, July 8, August 12, September 9, October 14, and November 11.  There is no December meeting.  The method or location of these meetings will be announced at a later date.
