Harvey Oaks Homeowners Association (HOHA) General Membership Meeting

Thursday, November 11, 2021-7:30 p.m.

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Corey Podwinski, President. 

Officers, Committee members, and Area Representatives present at the meeting were: John Brehmer-Guidelines/Nominating/Area 17, Warren Curry-Area 9, Ashley Doherty-Webmaster, Carol Feelhaver-Secretary/Social/Nominating/Welcome, Tim Glover-Nominating, Jim Grabenbaur-Parks, Lucas Hawkins-Vice President, Kevin Hughes-Ball Field/Advertising, Ashley Podwinski-Webpage Content, Marie & Gates Salistean-Parks/Membership, Traci Selby-Area 24, and Denny Schaeppi-Advertising/Social.

Committee Reports:

Treasurer’s Report-Trent Bradshaw submitted a written report.

Membership ReportRandy Mohr submitted the following report.  

  • There are 332 resident homes that have paid 2022 dues.  At this time last year, there were 300 resident homes that paid dues. This out of a total of 779 homes in the addition.  This is approximately a 9% increase.  

Nominating Report-Tim Glover stated there was no report.

Parks ReportJim Grabenbaur gave the following report.

  • The tennis court net needs repair.  Marie Salistean volunteered to try and repair the net.  
  • An entrance island/parks clean-up is scheduled on Sunday, November 14.  Everyone is asked to meet at 12:00 noon in the Center Park.  
  • Holiday lights will be turned on by mid-November to celebrate the approaching holidays.
  • There are several trash barrels missing from the parks.  Jim will contact the City of Omaha (City) and see about replacements.
  • The doggie waste bag stations in the parks are being used.  One station could be relocated.
  • There is an area on the tennis courts that needs repair.  Jim is looking for a company to repair the damage.  
  • Jim Grabenbaur and Tom Helm were thanked for all their work in the parks.  
  • Volunteers were thanked for helping put up the Holiday Lights on Sunday, November 7.

Newsletter Report-Christina Muska wasn’t present to give a report. 

  • The newsletter deadline for the December/January newsletter is November 15.
  • This will be the last issue of the newsletter residents will receive if they aren’t current (2022) members.  

Webpage Report-Ashley Doherty gave the following report.

  • The Holiday Parade route will be posted on the webpage so resident know approximately when the parade will be in their area.  In addition, 2022 dues will be collected during the parade.
  • The webpage is being used by residents.  

Advertising ReportDenny Schaeppi gave the following report.

  • Denny obtained three ad renewals for the newsletter.

Guidelines Issues-John Brehmer stated there was no report.

Citizens Patrol ReportJoni Ternes wasn’t present to give a report.  

  • Volunteers are needed to be patrollers.  
  • Additional patrol bags, for patrollers, will need to be put together.  

Social Committee Report-Carol Feelhaver gave the following report.

  • The Holiday Parade will be Sunday, December 5, starting at 1:00 p.m.  The parade will travel throughout the neighborhood wishing everyone a Happy Holiday Season. 
  • Volunteers are needed to fill vacancies on the End of Summer Bash planning committee and serve as Garage Sale chairperson.  Anyone interested can contact Carol Feelhaver at Feelhaver@centurylink.net
  • There were 85 individuals that attended the Movie in the Park night on October 9.  

Ball field Committee-Kevin Hughes gave the following report.

  • Registration for spring baseball practice on the practice field will start February 1, 2022.

Fireworks Display Committee-Craig Delany wasn’t present to give a report.

Old Business:

  • There were four homes that changed hands during October in Harvey Oaks.
  • A Spring Golf Tournament is currently in the planning stages.  The funds from this event will be used to rejuvenate the 144 and Harvey Oaks Avenue Entrance Island.  More information on the event will be coming. A planning committee has been developed. 
  • A list of rental homes and the name of the owners is being developed.  If anyone knows of a rental home in their area please contact someone on the HOHA Board.  

New Business:

  • Warren Curry was introduced as the new Area Representative for Area 9.
  • A ‘HOHA Volunteer Appreciation Event’ will be held on Wednesday, December 8, at 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Observatory Bar and Grill, 14525 West Center Road.  Derek Menke will be recognized for his service to HOHA at this event.
  • A Neighbor Helping Neighbor program is in the process of being developed.  If an elderly or disabled resident needs assistance with snow shoveling, lawn mowing, or leaf raking volunteers from the neighborhood will be able to assist.
  • The idea of developing a HOHA 2022 Football Tailgate Party was suggested.  The football game would be streamed on a large screen television in the North Park. 
  • A spring reminder membership drive is also under consideration.
  • The Omaha Police Department and the Douglas County Sherriff’s office sent representatives to the Movie in the Park Night.  These officers were extremely well received, and spent a lot of time talking to residents.
  • It was decided to continue HOHA meetings at Sean O’Casey’s Pub until further notice.  

Announcements:

  • Anyone that would like to report neighborhood problems should call the Mayor’s Hotline, 444-5555. 
  • Parents were asked to remind their children NOT to ride their bicycles across the practice field baseball diamond when it is muddy.  This destroys the playing surface.
  • Because November 11 was Veterans’ Day all military personnel, past and present, were thanked for their service to our country.
  • All the volunteers who helped putting up the Holiday Lights were thanked.  
  • Stacy Jolley, Randy Mohn, and Becky Tines were thanked for working at the ‘Dues Drive Thru’ on October 24.  
  • Fire hydrants in the neighborhood many times need freshening up.  If you would like regulation paint to improve the looks of these hydrants, contact Tom Helm thelm1860@gmail.com.

As there was no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m.  The next regular meeting is Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Sean O’Casey’s Pub, 2523 South 140 Avenue, in the back party room. 

There is no December meeting.

2022 Meeting Schedule-Second Thursday of each month-7:30 p.m.

February 10, March 10, April 14, May 12, June 9, July 14, August 11, September 8, October 13, November 10.  There is no December meeting.
