Harvey Oaks Homeowners Association (HOHA) General Membership Meeting
Thursday, August 8, 2019 7:30 p.m.
Converge Church-14515 Harvey Oaks Avenue-Omaha, NE
The meeting was called to order by Derek Menke, President.
Officers, Committee members, and Area Representatives present at the meeting were: Trent Bradshaw-Treasurer/Clean-Up Day Chairman, John Brehmer-Area 17/Guideline, Tom Davies-Area 8/Social, Carol Feelhaver-Secretary/Social, Tim Glover-Nominating, Jim Grabenbauer-Parks, Kevin Hughes-Advertising/Ball field, Michelle McMorris-Webpage Content, Randy Mohr-Membership, Corey Podwinski-Vice-President, Denny Schaeppi-Advertising/Social, Traci Selby-Area 25, Shane Sullivan-Social, Thom Sisson-Webmaster, and Ken Stevens-Parks. Adam Logan was also present representing Cub Scout Pack #435.
Traci Selby was introduced and thanked for agreeing to be Area Representative for Area 25.
Committee Reports:
Treasurer’s Report-Trent Bradshaw gave the following report.
- Trent submitted balance sheets and income statements for June and July. Anyone interested in a copy of these documents should contact Trent at trent_m_bradshaw@yahoo.com.
Membership Report–Randy Mohr gave the following report.
- There are 433 current HOHA household members. This is out of 779 houses. Last year, there were 446 household members.
Nominating Report-The following report was given.
- An Area Representative for Area 18 is needed. (last two Circles in Harvey Oaks)
- A volunteer for Webmaster is needed.
- A volunteer for Garage Sale chairperson is needed, also.
- John Brehmer has agreed to be Area Representative for Area 17.
Parks Report–Ken Stevens gave the following report.
- Mike and Carol Whetstine continue to maintain the entrance island at 144 Street.
- Jim Champion continues to maintain the entrance island at 148 Street.
- Ken continues to maintain the entrance island at 151 Street.
- The tennis courts’ surface has been repainted and repaired.
- The trees marked for removal in the middle park haven’t been removed yet. HOHA is waiting on the City of Omaha to remove the trees.
- The electrical outlet in the North park has been repaired. Ken cautioned everyone not to draw too much power from the circuit. The fuse will blow and there will be no power.
Newsletter Report-Christina Muska wasn’t present to give a report.
- The newsletter deadline for the October/November newsletter is September 15.
Webpage Report-Thom Sisson gave the following report.
- The HOHA Family Picnic express check-in page will go live on Monday, August 12. Families can use this feature and eliminate long lines at the check-in tables.
Advertising Report-Denny Schaeppi gave the following report.
- There is one new ad in the newsletter.
Guidelines Issues-John Brehmer gave the following report.
- The home at 15223 Shirley continues to need maintenance. The name of the guardian assigned to the owner is being researched to see if HOHA can help with the maintenance until the house is sold.
Citizens Patrol Report–Rudy Padilla wasn’t present to give a report.
- The Citizens Patrol will have a recruitment table at the HOHA Family Picnic.
Social Committee Report-The following report was given.
- The annual HOHA Family Picnic will be August 17, 5:00-8:00 p.m. Volunteers are badly needed for this event. If there aren’t enough volunteers, several features at the picnic will be shut down early. Anyone interested in volunteering can go to the website and sign-up.
- A postcard will be sent to all residents inviting them to the picnic and kicking off the 2020 membership drive. HOHA membership goes January 1-December 31. The picnic allows residents to pre-pay their 2020 dues.
- The theme of this year’s picnic will be Carnival.
- A Corn Toss Tournament will be a new event this year. Teams made up of an adult and child can register for the event at the picnic. There is a $10.00 per team registration fee and these funds are going directly to Youth Emergency Services (YES).
- YES is the HOHA designated charity this year and will receive a portion of the Silent Auction revenue as well.
- There will be a Silent Auction with lots of tremendous values.
- Appropriate insurance has been obtained for this event. The regular HOHA insurance doesn’t cover liability at the picnic.
- Boyd and Charlie’s will provide the main dish for the event.
- Residents will be asked to bring side dishes.
- The “Movies in the Park” on July 19 wasn’t well attended. The weather was extremely hot, and this might have caused the decline in participation. This event will be evaluated for 2020.
- The Cub Scout Pack #435 will launch rockets at the picnic again this year.
Ball Field Report-Kevin Hughes gave the following report.
- The practice field diamond is in need of major grading changes/repairs. Kevin will have a table at the picnic to draw attention to the condition of the practice field.
- Kevin has received a bid of $2,500.00 to recondition and repair the field. HOHA now needs to find some funds to cover this cost. A potential fundraiser is under consideration. This is the most affordable bid and will do exactly what the field needs.
Old Business:
- There were six homes sold in Harvey Oaks during July.
New Business:
- Carol Feelhaver made a motion to accept Derek Menke’s appointments of Trent Bradshaw and Corey Podwinski as treasurer and vice president, respectively, to fill unexpired terms. Thom Sisson seconded the motion. The motion was carried.
- Ken Stevens has obtained a less expensive bid for the blanket liability insurance for HOHA. Ken suggests HOHA accepts this lower bid.
- Derek Menke discussed several programs Converge Church has developed for the community of Harvey Oaks. He wanted to make HOHA aware of these programs.
- Converge Church has tentatively agreed to sponsor the American Flag project for the neighborhood before the July 4 holiday.
Announcements:
- Jim Champion, Mike and Carol Whetstine, and Ken Stevens were thanked for their continued maintenance of the entrance islands
- Shane Sullivan was thanked for organizing the July 19 “Movies in the Park.”
- John Brehmer was thanked for agreeing to be Area Representative in Area 17.
As there was no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m. The next meeting is Thursday, September 12, 2019, 7:30 p.m. at Converge Church (formerly Harvey Oaks Baptist Church).

October 10, November 14. There is no December meeting.
