Harvey Oaks Homeowners Association (HOHA) General Membership Meeting
Thursday, January 14, 2021 7:30 p.m. Zoom Meeting-Omaha, NE
The meeting was called to order by Derek Menke, president.
Officers, Committee members, and Area Representatives present at the meeting were: Trent Bradshaw-Treasurer/Clean Up Day, Tom Davies-Area 8/Social, Ashley Doherty-Webmaster, Carol Feelhaver-Secretary/Social/Nominating, Jim Grabenbauer-Parks, Kevin Hughes-Ball field/Advertising, Randy Mohr-Membership, Ashley Podwinski-Webpage content manager, Corey Podwinski Vice President, Marie Salistean-Parks, Denny Schaeppi-Advertising/Social, Traci Selby-Webpage content manager, Bobbi J. Shui & Sandi Fravel-Area 6, Shane Sullivan-Picnic Advisor, and Barb Velinsky-Parks.
Committee Reports:
Treasurer’s Report-Trent Bradshaw gave the following report.
- Trent reviewed the balance sheet and income statement through November/December 2020.
- Anyone interested in a copy of these documents should contact Trent at trent_m_bradshaw@yahoo.com.
Membership Report–Randy Mohr gave the following report.
- There are currently 367 HOHA household members for 2021. There were 332 members at this time during 2020.
- There are 71 residents that paid dues for two years.
- The Area Representatives will be contacted and asked to do follow-up with all non-joining residents.
- All Area Representatives, as they go door to door collecting dues, are asked to wear a badge identifying them.
- There will be a spring membership drive in April. The exact date hasn’t been scheduled.
Nominating Report-Carol Feelhaver gave the following report.
- There are currently openings for volunteers in the following areas.
- Holiday Party or Parade 2021 Chair
- The Children’s Play Group Chair
- Movie in the Park Night Chair
- HOHA Family Picnic planning committee

Parks Report–Jim Grabenbauer and Barb Velinsky gave the following report
- The Holiday lights committee raised $4,295.00 for the project. A total of $4,002.80 was spent on the project. Fifty-seven residents donated to the project.
- All the trees in the entrance islands at 144 and Harvey Oaks Avenue and 148 and Center were decorated.
- All decorations were purchased from Bright Ideas, Inc.
- There were eight volunteers that put up the light display.
- The lights will be taken down at the end of January, weather permitting.
- There have been many favorable comments on the lighting display.
- An electrician is working on the island lighting that displays the Harvey Oaks signs. The photo cells aren’t working properly.
- Bob Scott trimmed the burning bushes in the islands.
- The City of Omaha (City) picked up all the trimmings from the burning bushes.
- There is still no date when the dead trees in the middle park will be removed by the City.
- Estimates are being taken to renovate the islands landscaping for a more attractive look.
- There is a silt problem in the creek bed in the South Park. This issue will be looked at in the Spring for a solution.
- Dust is blowing from the Heartwood Preserve project and covering the tennis court and other park features. Corey Podwinski agreed to contact Bart Emmanuel about the problem.
Newsletter Report-Christina Muska wasn’t present to give a report.
- The newsletter deadline for the February/March issue is January 15.
Webpage Report-Ashley Doherty gave the following report.
- The new webpage is almost complete. It will need to be tested to make sure it is working properly.
- The new webpage will be a lot more user friendly allowing members faster access.
Advertising Report-Denny Schaeppi gave the following report.
- Two advertisers have renewed their newsletter space for 2021.
- There are several companies interested in advertising in the newsletter but haven’t supplied ad material.
Guidelines Issues-John Brehmer stated there was no report.
Citizens Patrol Report–Jonie Ternes wasn’t present to give a report.
- It was suggested the Citizens Patrol could start patrolling if only on a limited basis.
- Several of the teams are family members, and it would be safe for them to patrol as a unit.
Social Committee Report-The following report was given.
- The Holiday Parade held on December 6 was a huge success. Many favorable comments have been received on the event.
- The Children’s Candy Hunt, schedule for April 17, will be postponed until a later date due to the virus.
- The Annual Garage Sale will be held on April 29, 30, & May 1. Any current HOHA member interested in participating needs to register with Mary Padilla. If there is enough interest, the event will be scheduled.
- The annual Fireworks Display will be Saturday, June 26, and will include the addition of food trucks.
- Volunteers are needed to work on the Annual Picnic Planning committee. If the event is to be held this year, many features need to be tweaked to meet health and safety regulations. If you know anyone interested, please contact Carol Feelhaver.
Ball Field Report-Kevin Hughes gave the following report.
- Ball field reservations, for Spring practice, will start the week of February 1.
- The field will be maintained on a regular basis this year.
- The area will also be sprayed for weeds.
- Kevin is working on an insurance liability form that coaches will need to sign before they can use the field.
Old Business:
- There were nine homes that changed hands during November/December in Harvey Oaks.
- Jim Grabenbauer is still looking for older pictures of Harvey Oaks for the “Growing Up Harvey Oaks” project.
New Business:
- A resignation letter from Shane Sullivan was read. Shane has moved from the area, and wanted to thank everyone for their assistance with the Movies in the Park and Family Picnic.
- Sandi Fravel and Bobbie Jo Shui were introduced as the new Area Representatives in Area 6. They will be replacing Reva Neal.
- An update on the rental house on Arbor Street was given. The landlord has been contacted and the lease of the current renters has been terminated. Hopefully the house will have new tenants within the next six months.
- Corey Podwinski reported on the Heartwood Preserve project. All the area north of Pacific Street will see progress moving forward. The area south of Pacific Street the progress will not be as quick.
- Corey has agreed to keep in contact with Bart Emmanuel on the development.
Announcements:
- The following individuals were thanked for their assistance with the HOHA Holiday Parade. Ryan Hranek, Lillian Jambor, Derek, Julie, Rowan, & Callie Menke, Nate Padilla, Corey, Ashley, & Ollie Podwinski, Bob, Laura, Sam, & Stella Scott, Rita, James, & Sydney Smith, Chris, Becky, Jaxon, Cole, & Camille Tines, Doug Wermeskerch, Clint, Alana, Hailey, & Ava Whitmarch. Troy Kaiser donated the use of his trailer/flatbed. Becky Tines organized the event.
- Bob Scott was thanked for trimming the burning bushes in the islands.
- Sandi Fravel and Bobbi Jo Shui were thanked for agreeing to be Area Representatives in Area 6.
- Reva Neal was thanked for her years of service as the former Area Representative in Area 6.
- Jim Gradenbauer, Tom Helm, and Barb Velinsky were thanked for their efforts on the holiday light project.
- Shane Sullivan was thanked for his years of service to HOHA.
As there was no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m. The next regular meeting is Thursday, February 11, 2021, 7:30 p.m. method or place to be determined.

2021 Meeting Schedule
Meetings for 2021 are as follows on the second Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. March 11, April 8, May 13, June 10, July 8, August 12, September 9, October 14, November 11. There is no December meeting. The method or location of these meetings will be announced at a later date.
