Harvey Oaks Homeowners Association (HOHA) General Membership Meeting

Thursday, October 13, 2022-7:30 p.m. 

Sean O’Casey’s Pub-2523 South 140 Avenue-Omaha, NE 

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Corey Podwinski, President. 

Officers, Committee members, and Area Representatives present at the meeting were: John Brehmer-Guidelines/Area 17,Warren Curry-Newsletter/Area 9, Ashley Doherty-Webmaster, Carol Feelhaver-Secretary/Social/Nominating/Welcome, Sandi Fravel-Area 6, Tim Glover-Nominating, Luke Hawkins-Vice-President, Tom Helm-Parks, Ashley Podwinski-Social Media, Gates & Marie Salistean-Parks, Traci Selby-Membership/Area 25, and Donna Thompson-Social/Area 27.  

Committee Reports:

Treasurer’s Report-Trent Bradshaw submitted a written report.  

  • Trent presented the financial statements through September 30, 2022.
  • Anyone interested in a copy of this report should contact Trent at trent_m_bradshaw@yahoo.com.

Membership Report-Traci Selby gave the following report.

  • There are 68 resident households that have joined HOHA for 2023.
  • The 2023 Membership Drive is currently underway.  New this year, door hangers are being placed on every home inviting them to join HOHA.  
  • There are still six areas that need to distribute hangers.
  • Deadline for distribution of door hangers is October 17.
  • November 6, will be the ‘Dues Drive Thru’ from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m.  Residents can drop off their dues at this time.  The volunteers will be located in the upper parking lot of Converge Church.  (new location)
  • Board members and Area Representatives were reminded to pay their current dues.  This sets a good example.  
  • Traci will have a credit card reader available at the ‘Drive Thru’.

Nominating ReportTim Glover stated there was no report.

Parks ReportTim Helm gave the following report.  

  • Plans for the renovation of the 144 and Harvey Oaks Avenue Island are underway.  Trees will be placed in the front part of the island within the next couple of weeks. 
  • The holiday lights will be put up on Saturday, October 22 starting at 1:00 p.m.  Everyone is asked to meet at the church.  
  • A November date will be confirmed for a clean-up in the North Park.
  • Parking on Shirley Street, by the practice ball diamond, continues to be a problem.  
  • It was suggested a flyer be developed and distributed to teams registering to use the practice ball diamond.  The flyer will explain the parking problems and ask for their cooperation.  
  • It was noted that the City of Omaha (City) will pick up trash in any of the parks, if the trash is located in one spot and the City is notified.  

Newsletter Report-Warren Curry gave the following report.

  • The deadline for December/January issue is November 15.
  • So far the editor transition has gone smoothly.

Webpage ReportAshley Doherty and Ashley Podwinski gave the following report.

  • The webpage will be continually updated with information on the current activities.
  • HOHA membership information is highlighted on the site, and is user friendly.
  • A volunteer has come forward and agreed to be the photographer at HOHA sponsored events.  

Advertising Report-Denny Schaeppi wasn’t present to give a report.

Guidelines Issues-John Brehmer stated there was no report.  

Citizens Patrol ReportJoni Ternes wasn’t present to give a report. 

  • Volunteers are needed to be patrollers.  Anyone interested can contact Joni Ternes. (J_ternes1@yahoo.com)

Social Committee Report-The following report(s) were given.

  • The Annual HOHA Holiday Parade will be held on Sunday, December 4, time to be determined.  The parade will take on a new format this year and more information will be coming.   
  • Individuals interested in having a float in the parade this year can contact Becky Tines, bltines@yahoo.com.  
  • A calendar of 2023 events has been developed, and will be in the next issue of the newsletter.
  • Confirmed food trucks at the 2023 Fireworks Display are as follows.  
  • Laughing Boar, 402 BBQ, Hawk’s Pizza, and Kona Ice.  Willie Dog and Brownie Bar are possible vendors.  Date for the Fireworks Display is June 24, at dusk. 
  • Confirmed food Trucks at the 2023 End of Summer Bash (EOSB) are as follows.  
  • Burning Bridges, Johnny Ricco’s Pizza, Brownie Bar, and Kona Ice.  A taco truck and a BBQ truck are also possible vendors.  Date for the EOSB is August 12, 5:00-8:00 p.m.  

Ball field Committee-Kevin Hughes wasn’t present to give a report.  

  • Parking around the Park’s practice ball diamond continues to be a problem.  

Old Business:

  •  The Harvey Oaks Golf Classic will be held again next year.  The planning for this event will start in January of 2023.  If you are interested in serving on the committee contact Trent Bradshaw.  Trent_m_bradshaw@yahoo.com.   
  • The golf classic sponsorship levels will be determined soon.
  • There were three homes that changed hands in Harvey Oaks during September.  

New Business:

  • There will be a ‘Volunteer Appreciation Event’ on Thursday, December 8 at the Observatory Bar and Grill, 14526 West Center Road, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.  All HOHA volunteers will be invited.  
  • There will be complimentary food and drink at the appreciation event.
  • Laura Scott has resigned as ‘Yard of the Month’ chairperson and will be replaced by Andrew Legge.  
  • Craig Dulany has resigned as the Fireworks Liaison and will be replaced by Corey Podwinski.  
  • Sandi Fravel, Area Representative for Area 6, reported a resident in her area asked if HOHA would consider re-sponsoring the Luminary Project.  It will be impossible to organize this event this year because of time.  If a chairperson for this event can be found, HOHA will look at the possibility of sponsoring this event again.  

Announcements:

  • The 2022 Holiday Parade will December 4, time to be announced.  (more information to come)
  • A ‘Volunteer Appreciation Event’ will be Thursday, December 8, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Observatory Bar and Grill.
  • Craig Dulany and Laura Scott were thanked for their time as HOHA volunteers.

As there was no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 8:22 p.m.  The next regular meeting is Thursday, November 10, 2022, 7:30 p.m. at Sean O’Casey’s Pub, 2523 South 140 Avenue, in the back party room. 

2023 HOHA Meeting Schedule-Second Thursday of each month-7:30 p.m.

January 12, February 9, March 9, April 13, May 11, June 8, July 13, August 10, September 14, October 12, November 9.  There is no December meeting.   

December 8, 2022, is the HOHA ‘Volunteer Appreciation Event’ at the Observatory Bar and Grill, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
