Harvey Oaks Homeowners Association (HOHA) General Membership Meeting
Thursday, September 10, 2020 7:30 p.m. Zoom Meeting-Omaha, NE
The meeting was called to order by Derek Menke, president.
Officers, Committee members, and Area Representatives present at the meeting were: Trent Bradshaw-Treasurer/Clean Up Day, Carol Feelhaver-Secretary/Social/Nominating, Jim Grabenbauer-Parks, Kevin Hughes-Advertising/Ball diamond, Stacy Jolley-Area 23/Social/Membership, Randy Mohr-Membership, Rudy Padilla-Citizen Patrol, Corey Podwinski-Vice President, Donna Thompson-Area 27, and Becky Tines-Membership/Social. Also present at the meeting was Drew Thompson, Fireworks Display director.
Committee Reports:
Treasurer’s Report-Trent Bradshaw gave the following report.
- Trent reviewed the balance sheet and income statement through August 31, 2020.
- Anyone interested in a copy of these documents should contact Trent at trent_m_bradshaw@yahoo.com.
- Trent also reviewed the 2020-21 budget.
- After some discussion, several changes were made to the budget.
- It was moved and seconded to approve the budget with the suggested changes. This motion was carried.
- Anyone interested in a copy of the budget can contact Trent at the address above.
Membership Report–Randy Mohr gave the following report.
- There are 399 current Harvey Oaks households that have paid 2020 dues. This is out of 779 total homes.
- The annual membership drive letter, to kick off the 2021 membership drive, is being rewritten by Derek Menke. Even though there have been no social events, HOHA has been active in other areas.
- Jim Grabenbauer has agreed to put together a video titled “Growing Up Harvey Oaks” and post this on the website as a kick off to the 2021 membership drive. Pictures, past and present, of Harvey Oaks will need to be obtained from different residents in the area.
- A ‘Dues Drive Thru’ will be planned for sometime in October or November.
- Stacy Jolley has agreed to co-chair the membership drive committee with Becky Tines.
Nominating Report-The following report was given.
- A Google survey will be developed and sent out to all HOHA members by Corey Podwinski. This survey will list all the volunteer positions needed by HOHA for 2021. Job descriptions are available for most of the positions open.
Parks Report–Jim Grabenbauer gave the following report.
- Two Pet Waste Stations will be installed in the parks. One by the practice ball diamond (installed) and one in the middle park by the play equipment (currently not installed).
- Dead trees have been removed from the middle park by the City of Omaha (City).
- Additional holiday lights have been purchased for the entrance islands. Electric power to the back portion of the 148 and Center island is a problem. Several ideas/suggestions are under consideration.
- The holiday lights on the entrance islands will be put up on October 17, 10:00 a.m. The lights will be lit at the first part of November. Volunteers will be needed to help with this project.
- There is no electric power to the 151 and Center Street island. The current island solar lights have been replaced because they weren’t working.
- The “Port-a-Potty” in the North Park hasn’t been picked up and will probably stay for a few more weeks.
- A Clean-Up day for the Center Park will be organized.
- HOHA will be getting bids for new playground equipment in the center park. It was noted this equipment is expensive and has to be approved by the City.
Newsletter Report-Christina Muska wasn’t present to give a report.
- The newsletter deadline for the October/November issue is September 15.
Webpage Report-There was no report given.
Advertising Report-Kevin Hughes gave the following report.
- There are several new ads in the newsletter.
- Renewals, from previous advertisers, have been coming in on a regular basis.
Guidelines Issues-John Brehmer wasn’t present to give a report.
Citizens Patrol Report–Rudy Padilla gave the following report.
- All patrollers will be e-mailed to see if they would like to start patrolling again.
Social Committee Report-The following report was given.
- Drew Thompson, Fireworks Display director, is contacting the Douglas County Health Department to see what exactly will need to be in place for the fireworks display to happen. Social distancing will be a problem and difficult to implement.
- There have been no negative comments regarding cancelling the HOHA Family Picnic this year.
- Corey Podwinski suggested a Santa Parade be planned in lieu of the Annual Holiday Party on Sunday, December 6. Santa would tour the neighborhood passing out candy and wishing everyone “Happy Holidays.” It might not be possible to hold the Holiday Party inside because of the Covid-19 virus.
Ball Field Report-Kevin Hughes gave the following report.
- The practice diamond has currently not seen much use.
- Kevin has received a bid for $450.00 to resurface the diamond in the spring.
- The weed situation on the diamond is currently bad and will be addressed.
Old Business:
- There were five homes that changed hands during August in Harvey Oaks.
- Copies of the 2020 HOHA directory have been mailed to all current (2020) HOHA members. If anyone was missed and didn’t receive their copy, they can contact Carol Feelhaver.
- Members of the directory assembly committee were thanked. This included Becky Tines, Thom Sisson, and Carol Feelhaver.
New Business:
- Several ideas were discussed to get more individuals interested in joining HOHA and become more involved with the various HOHA committees.
- One idea was to promote small neighborhood gatherings, allowing individuals to know their neighbors. These gathering will also promote the advantages of being part of HOHA.
- The 2021 Membership Drive will highlight the accomplishments of HOHA in spite of the virus.
- A timeline for the membership drive was established.
Letter to all residents by October 1.
Deadline to respond to the letter is November 1.
November 15, Area Representatives will contact all non-joining members.
Announcements:
- Jim Grabenauer, Tom Helm, Kevin and Jack Hughes, Ron Jenson, Derek Menke, and Jason Velinsky were thanked for helping with the Park Clean-up on August 22.
- The City has notified HOHA, there will be no Fall Clean-up Day scheduled for 2020.
As there was no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m. The next regular meeting is Thursday, October 8, 2020, 7:30 p.m. method or place to be determined.

2020 Meeting Schedule
November 12, there is no December meeting. The meetings are the second Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at Converge Church. (Or currently by Zoom conference call/meeting)
Post Meeting Update:
The Douglas County Health Department as approved the Fireworks Display. It will take place on Saturday, October 24, 8:00 p.m. The Fireworks Clean-Up day will be Sunday, October 25, 10:00 a.m. in the North Park. More information will be coming.
