Harvey Oaks Homeowners Association (HOHA) General Membership Meeting

Thursday, September 9, 2021 7:30 p.m. 

Converge Church-14515 Harvey Oaks Avenue-Omaha, NE 

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Derek Menke, President. 

Officers, Committee members, and Area Representatives present at the meeting were: Trent Bradshaw-Treasurer/Clean-Up Day, John Brehmer-Guidelines, Carol Feelhaver-Secretary/Social/Nominating/Welcome, Lucas Hawkins-Vice President-elect, Kevin Hughes-Ball field/Advertising, Randy Mohr-Membership, Corey Podwinski-President-elect, Marie and Gates Salistean-Parks, Denny Schaeppi-Advertising/Social, and Bobbi Jo Shui-Area 6

Committee Reports:

Treasurer’s Report-Trent Bradshaw gave the following report.

  • Trent reviewed the financial reports through August 31, 2021.
  • Anyone interested in a copy of these documents should contact Trent at trent_m_bradshaw@yahoo.com.
  • The 2021-22 budget was briefly reviewed.  Trent moved the 2021-22 budget be approved as presented.  Corey Podwinski seconded the motion.  This motion was carried.  
  • It was noted HOHA uses a fiscal year October 1 thru September 30.

Membership ReportRandy Mohr gave the following report.  

  • HOHA will close the fiscal year with 451 memberships.  This is approximately 58% of the homes in Harvey Oaks.  There were 395 memberships in 2020.
  • There are 158 residents that have paid 2022 dues at this time.  

Nominating Report-Tim Glover wasn’t present to give a report.

  • An Area Representative is needed in Area 9.  This area includes 14712-14893 on Harvey Oaks Avenue and 14704-14716 on Francis Circle.  Anyone with possible leads for this position should contact Carol Feelhaver.  

Parks ReportJim Grabenbauer or Tom Helm weren’t present to give a report.

  • It was noted that Don and Sallie Frei have been working in the parks cleaning them up.  The Freis were thanked for their time.
  • It was noted the tennis courts have been in constant use recently.

Newsletter Report-Christina Muska wasn’t present to give a report. 

  • The newsletter deadline for the October/November issue is September 15.

Webpage Report-Ashley Doherty submitted the following report.

  • Ashley Doherty and Ashley Podwinski will be working on a notification to residents about the dues increase.
  • There are some spam e-mails coming through the new webpage.  Work is in progress to eliminate these e-mails.
  • Web improvements and getting non-web users into our system are underway.
  • Randy Mohr will be trained on the new system.

Advertising ReportDenny Schaeppi gave the following report.

  • There were two renewals for newsletter advertising. 

Guidelines Issues-John Brehmer gave the following report.

  • There are a couple homes currently in disrepair, the owner and/or rental company will be contacted.  

Citizens Patrol ReportJonie Ternes wasn’t present to give a report.  

  • Volunteers are needed to be patrollers.  

Social Committee Report-Carol Feelhaver gave the following report.

  • The Harvey Oaks Family Picnic was held August 14.  

                        There were 500 individuals in attendance, 243 children and 257 adults.

                        There were 12-2021 memberships collected and 26-2022 memberships collected.

                        A total of $483.00 was collected for the fireworks display and $60.00 for ball field improvements.

                        There was a total of $2,900.00 income from the Silent Auction.  

                        Forty six companies/individuals donated items to the Silent Auction.

                        Youth Emergency Services (YES) will receive a check for $275.00 as the designated charity.  YES also received                              $600.00 in left over meals from the picnic.

  • Movies in the Park will be held on Saturday, October 9.  

                        There will be food trucks at the event from 5:30-7:30 p.m.  

                        Shirley Street will be closed from 5:30-10:30 p.m. because of the event.

                        Pirates of the Caribbean is the movies to be shown. 

  • The Holiday Parade will be held on Sunday, December 5, starting at 1:00 p.m.  

Ball field Committee-Kevin Hughes gave the following report.

  • The ball field is looking the best it has in years.
  • Unauthorized games have been taking place on the diamond and this will be looked into.
  • The current field is not a regulation field and can only be used for practice sessions.  
  • The opportunity to reserve the field for fall practice is available.  The individual should contact Kevin Hughes or go to the webpage for contact information.   
  • Parking around the ball field continues to be a problem.

Fireworks Display Committee-Craig Delany wasn’t present to give a report.

Old Business:

  • There were 11 homes that changed hands during August in Harvey Oaks.
  • The exact date the entrance island holiday lights will be turned on will be determined by Jim Grabenbauer and Tom Helm. 

New Business:

  • A Fall Clean Up date is waiting for final approval from the City of Omaha.  
  • A Spring Golf Tournament is currently in the planning stages.  The funds from this event will be used to rejuvenate the 144 and Harvey Oaks Avenue Entrance Island.  More information on the event will be coming.
  • Residents will be notified of the dues increase to $50.00 via email soon.  Residents have until October 1 to pay $40.00 in dues, after October 1 the dues will increase.

Announcements:

  • Anyone that would like to report neighborhood problems should call the Mayor’s Hotline, 444-5555. 
  • Derek Menke was thanked for his six years as HOHA President and Vice President.
  • Don and Sallie Frei were thanked for their work cleaning up the parks.
  • The Picnic Planning committee was thanked for all their work on the recent event.
  • Denny Schaeppi was thanked for his continual hard work putting the Silent Auction together. 
  • Movie in the Park will be held on Saturday, October 9 at dark. (Approximately 8:00 p.m.)  Food trucks will be on Shirley Street from 5:30-7:30 p.m.  
  • Shirley Street will be closed from 5:30-10:30 p.m. because of the Movie in the Park event. 

As there was no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 8:25 p.m.  The next regular meeting is Thursday, October 14, 2021, 7:30 p.m. at Converge Church, 14515 Harvey Oaks Avenue.

Meetings for 2021 are as follows on the second Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. November 11.  There is no December meeting.
