Harvey Oaks Homeowners Association (HOHA) General Membership Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Corey Podwinski, President.
Officers, Committee members, and Area Representatives present at the meeting were: Trent Bradshaw-Treasurer, John Brehmer-Guidelines/Area 17, Carol Feelhaver-Secretary/Social/Nominating/Welcome, Sandi Fravel-Area 6, Luke Hawkins-Vice President, Denny Schaeppi-Advertising/Social, and Traci Selby-Area 25/Membership/Social. Resident Steve Hossack, Area 7, was also present.
Committee Reports:
Membership Report-Traci Selby gave the following report.
- There are 383 resident homes that are members of HOHA in 2023, or approximately 49%.
- To date, 70 families have joined HOHA for 2024.
- The 2024 membership drive has started. Dues are $50.00 a year. A letter asking residents to join HOHA will go out in October.
- A ‘Dues Drive -Thru’ will be held on Sunday, November 5, from 12:00-4:00 p.m. in Converge Church’s parking lot. This will allow residents another option to join HOHA and drop off their dues.
Nominating Report–The following report was given.
- A volunteer to be Citizens Patrol chairperson is needed.
- A volunteer for HOHA Vice President is needed.
- A volunteer for Social Media is needed.
- A volunteer for Treasurer is needed.
- A slate of candidates for HOHA officers will be voted on at the October meeting.
Parks Report–Tom Helm and Jim Grabenbaur weren’t present to give a report.
- There are concerns about the creek bed in the South Park. Bart Emmanuel of Heartwood Preserve and City of Omaha (City) Councilman Brinker Harding have been notified about this problem. They agreed to look into the situation.
- One of the sidewalks leading into the middle park has caved in. The City has been notified of this problem.
- John Brehmer, Tom Helm, and Bob Scott will serve on a committee to finalize the renovations of the entrance island at 144 and Harvey Oaks Avenue.
Newsletter Report-Warren Curry wasn’t present to give a report.
- The deadline for the December/January newsletter is November 15.
Webpage/Social Media Report–No one was present to give a report.
Advertising Report-Denny Schaeppi gave the following report.
- There is $810.00 in newsletter advertising billing that will be going out.
Guidelines Issues-John Brehmer gave the following report.
- A minor issue regarding parking on area streets has been addressed.
Citizens Patrol Report–the following report was given.
- A chairman for the Citizens Patrol is needed. Anyone interested can contact Luke Hawkins. (lucashawkins@gmail.com)
Social Committee Report-The following report(s) were given.
- The HOHA Holiday Festivities will be Sunday, December 3.
- The 2024 Harvey Oaks Golf Classic will be Sunday, May 19, with an 8:00 a.m. shot gun start.
- The 2024 End of Summer Bash/picnic will be Saturday, August 10.
End of Summer Bash/Picnic (EOSB)
- Dawn Crimshaw was thanked for being the corporate sponsor of the event this year.
- There were 449 individuals that attended the event.
- The Silent Auction had items donated with a gross value of $7,400.00. The Auction made $4,100.00 in actual revenue.
- Youth Emergency Services (YES) received a check for $800.00 from the proceeds of the Silent Auction.
- There are six vendors that have already signed up for the 2024 event.
- Many of the donating businesses were very generous in their contributions.
- There is a need for additional individuals to serve on the 2024 EOSB planning committee.
Ball field Committee-Kevin Hughes wasn’t present to give a report.
- The fall reservation schedule for the field will be on a first come basis.
Treasurer’s Report-Trent Bradshaw gave the following report.
- Anyone interested in a copy of this report should contact Trent at trent_m_bradshaw@yahoo.com.
- The revised budget for 2023-24 was presented and reviewed.
- It was moved and seconded to adopt the budget in its revised form. This motion was carried.
Old Business:
- There were five homes that changed hands in Harvey Oaks during August.
- Nothing was reported on the proposed apartment complex at 144 and Dupont Court.
New Business:
- A Neighborhood Clean-Up Day will be held on Saturday, October 7, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Harvey Oaks School’s parking lot. A list of what can and can’t be accepted is posted on the website.
- The Bicycle Rescue, a metal collection agency, and Cross Electronic Recycling will be at the event also.
- Volunteers will be needed to work at this event. If you are interested, you can contact John Brehmer at jjbrehmer@centurylink.net, Kevin Hughes at krhughes@gmail.com, or Derek Menke at dmenke@cox.net.
- A detailed discussion on the need for additional HOHA volunteers was held. Many of the current officers/Area Representatives are requesting replacement. Methods to get families interested in helping with HOHA were discussed.
- HOHA is a strong organization, but needs new and interested people to keep the organization strong and active.
- Corey Podwinski agreed to write a letter to all residents asking for volunteers to help with the various events so HOHA can continue to remain strong and work for the neighborhood.
- A Volunteer Recognition event will be held on Thursday, December 7, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Observatory Bar and Grill.
- A Holiday Festivities/Gathering will be held on Sunday, December 3. More information on this event will be coming.
Announcements
- Marie Salistean was thanked for her work on the Parks committee.
- The volunteers that worked at the recent EOSB/Picnic were thanked.
- The planning committee for the recent EOSB/picnic was thanked.
- Volunteers are needed for the October Clean-Up Day in Harvey Oaks.
- The residents of Harvey Oaks that supported the recent Silent Auction. Their support allowed HOHA to make an $800.00 contribution to Youth Emergency Services.
As there was no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m. The next regular meeting is Thursday, October 12, 2023, 7:30 p.m. at Sean O’Casey’s Pub, 2523 South 140 Avenue, in the back party room.

November 9. There is no December meeting.
2024 Meeting Schedule
January 11, February 8, March 14, April 11, May 9, June 13, July 11, August 8, September 12, October 10, November 14. There is no December meeting.
